Caritas, Wednesday, 10/22

Penelope hurried into work after spending the afternoon still being played out with Tully Mars. She was somewhat winded, somewhat exhausted, but of the good kind.

Her scarf, however, was in place as she settled behind the bar. She accepted her usual beer from Tino, muttered a thanks, and got ready for the evening.

The band was rapping. She had no idea what they were saying but she caught the words 'In the closet' and they just didn't make sense.

Caritas is open!

Jack, after talking with Amber, was in need of support. POssibly liquid courage. Possibly lots of it.

Penelope glanced over at Tino. With one look at Jack, Tino prepared the Mullet drink (http://www.virtualbar.com/v.html?id=44031). He then handed it to Penelope and she in turn set it before Jack on a bar napkin. "I hope you enjoy it."

"Thanks! Always good to try something new," he stated, taking a sip. And then another sip. And a third. "Wow. [Microphone feedback]n' A!" he declared. "This is good."

She grinned wide, ignoring that expletive. "I'm very glad, Jack. Would you like me to keep a glass full for you?"

"Please do," he stated, taking another big swig. "So. How was the weeke--er, the dance?" Yeah. Ignore the weekend. For sure.

Peyton came in for a drink. "Hey, Penelope." She frowned a little. "You're wearing your scarf again."

She lowered her eyes. "My mother called," she began, "and I was reminded of who I am."

Peyton looked confused, then angry. "What did she say to you?"

"It's okay, Peyton," she said, seeing the look on her friends face. "I know who I am. I've always known. My parents aren't coming here for parents weekend. I'm going home."

"Yeah? Seems to me if you agree with your mother, then you're dead wrong," Peyton said intently. "You're a beautiful girl and really sweet and nobody has the right to make you feel otherwise."

Daisy was jet-lagged, she was tired, she was probably in store for a giant demotion, and she had a whole new apartment to get used to, let alone a whole country.

So, of course, she would be checking out that bar that Benton had told her about. She'd only grab a drink or two, and, besides, she had plenty of vitamin C to help her be prepared to settle in with the sheriff tomorrow.

"Vodka and orange, please!"

"Hello! Coming right up," Penelope replied cheerfully with a glance at Tino. He made up the drink in no time at all and handed it to Penelope. The glass was set before the lady on a bar napkin. "Here you are. Please enjoy it."

"Ta." Daisy picked up the drink with a nod, raising it like a toast to the girl, and took a sip. "That's the spot, innit?"

Thing about a new country was you didn't have any reservations in slipping into awful slang. "Pretty quiet in here, but it is a Wednesday, I guess."

Penelope smiled. "It is usually quiet in here on Wednesdays. Or is has been since I've begun to work here. I'm Penelope by the way."

Daisy cocked her head toward the sea. "Right on the other side of the pond," she said. "London. I know, I'm crazy to still be standing; I probably look about as dead as your band there."
