The Beach - Saturday Sunset

Sora laid back on the beach, listening to the waves and watching the sky get darker as the sun went down. It was too bad it was cloudly, he would have liked to have watched the sunset with all the colors like at home.

He smiled wistfully up at the clouds, hoping that this year home would be able to come and visit him.

The sunset was beautiful. The red-haired girl had to stop for a moment and watch it.

See? It was just about perfect, that this island had a beach, too.

"Are you snoozing again?" Kairi laughed. "At least this time I'm not making the raft all by myself."

(Okay, so Riku had been the one usually doing the work. That wasn't important.)

Sora jumped up shocked at hearing a familiar voice. But that shock turned into a giant face splitting smile.

"KAIRI!!" He beamed and nearly tackled her.

"Sora!" She was going to squeeze his lungs clean out of his body. He could wear them on the outside. "I'm sorry I'm late. Did I miss it? I'm gonna stick around anyway, even if I did."

"No!" He said hugging her back just as tightly. "Was anyone else able to come? The King? Donald, Goofy... Riku?" He asked looking around and then hugged her again tightly. "Either way it's so good to see you I've missed you so much!"

"I've missed you, too!" she said, squeezing him again. If his lungs survived the first one, they could totally take a second round. "No, it's just me. I'm so sorry, Riku was gonna come, too, and it was gonna be a surprise and we were all excited, and then something happened with the King. It's not anything bad or scary, they just had to talk. So I'm supposed to give you noogies, from him. But I'm okay with just saying we did if you are."

She gave him a teasing grin. "You two keep taking off on me. One of these days, I'm gonna be the one having crazy adventures and you guys are gonna be so jealous."

Sora grinned at her, but did look a little worried. "Well as long as he's not hiding anything again I'll forgive him... maybe."

"And next time there's an adventure you are coming with us!"

Kairi nodded, her face growing more solemn. "I'll ask, when he gets back. It's okay. He doesn't ... keep stuff, the way he used to."

Before, when he'd had his secret resentments. The ones that led him to the Door.

She smiled again. "I mean it. It's no fun to be the one getting kidnapped all the time. Next time someone tries it, I'm gonna kick them."

"Well you also have that really cool keyblade you can pull on them too!" He smiled holding Kairi's hands in his and swinging them back and forth, jsut so happy to see her that he didn't want to let go.

"Sides..." he said with a deep breath. "I've been kinda thinking about talking to the king too... about letting me come home."

Kairi swayed back and forth in time to the hand-swings. "Riku gave me that one," she said. "It doesn't seem to pop out when I stick my hand out. I think I'm doing it wrong."

Her eyes lit up. "You have? Really? We could all be together again!" Just as quickly, she frowned. "But he said you're supposed to be here, didn't he? Do you think he'd let you?"

"Well yeah.. but I was hardly able to be home after we got back! And... I know it's selfish but I want to spend time at home with everyone and..."

He trailed off, he wasn't sure if it would be smart to mention Naminé or Demyx being there and missing them a lot. "I had made friends here but they left and well... I've been really lonely since."

"It doesn't sound selfish to me," Kairi said loyally, reaching to give him another hug. "Any time I get you guys back again, something happens. And you, you've saved the world twice now, you deserve a break from it. We can build the raft and go looking for places. Or we can just stay home."

"I like the idea of staying home... at least for a little while?" He grinned sheepishly. "After that? As long as I'm with you and Riku... it doesn't matter."

"It's not home without you guys," Kairi said, smiling a little sadly. "Maybe I'm just selfish, too. We can all be selfish together, right?"
