The Park, Saturday Afternoon

The day was gorgeous - sunny and crisp and cool, but not so cool that people would need coats or sweaters. There were some discrete space heaters set up for those who had chosen not to wear sleeves with their formalwear.

A light breeze was there to lift hair that wasn't pinned or sprayed into position. Birds sang. Chairs were set up, divided by a long center aisle. There was even a small section towards the front with little piles of nuts and bottles of rum - Vala and Barney had both done radio at one time or another, plus it just made sense to make nice to the squirrels.

The wedding party had yet to take their places, so the atmosphere was open and relaxed, if a bit anticipatory.

[ooc: Open to all, but please wait for OCD is now complete!]

"I fear I should look like --" Well. Jane would faint, presumably, and there were probably ladies of questionable virtue in London who covered themselves up more. But it was difficult to explain that one would look as a harlot in a dress when no one in this culture blinked at it, and more so when one was addressing a bride whose dress was similarly ... forward.

It would be a rather serious breach of etiquette to discomfit a bride on her wedding day, wouldn't it?

Lizzy could not believe she was considering this.

"I should ... try it on?" she said weakly. Perhaps she could hope that it did not fit.

Eliza reminded herself very sternly that this day was not about her own comfort levels, but Miss Mal Doran's future happiness.

"Then I shall," she smiled, and disappeared into the dressing room.

Miss Bennet peered out, hesitantly. "It fits," she said. "It's a rather ... comfortable dress."

She was flushing as she came out. "It's ..."

She didn't have words, beyond that.

"It's settled," Eliza nodded. Not her day. She would remember that. And remember not to agree to participate in future weddings, as well.

"Do you need help with your dress?"

"Don't be nervous," Eliza said, leaning over to assist with the pinnings. "Think of the joy you'll have together. Weddings are only one day; marriages are for life."
