The Park, Saturday Afternoon

The day was gorgeous - sunny and crisp and cool, but not so cool that people would need coats or sweaters. There were some discrete space heaters set up for those who had chosen not to wear sleeves with their formalwear.

A light breeze was there to lift hair that wasn't pinned or sprayed into position. Birds sang. Chairs were set up, divided by a long center aisle. There was even a small section towards the front with little piles of nuts and bottles of rum - Vala and Barney had both done radio at one time or another, plus it just made sense to make nice to the squirrels.

The wedding party had yet to take their places, so the atmosphere was open and relaxed, if a bit anticipatory.

Trying not to smirk at the "ew" she heard from Biff, Vala took Barney's hands and met his eyes. She took a deep breath, then started speaking, "Barney, I can honestly say that I would not be standing in front of all of these people, here, with anyone but you."

She did look apologetically at Biff for a second or two before continuing, "You understand me, you're fantastically wealthy, and have a flexible morality that I find very appealing. But, more importantly, when I tell you things like I'm from outer space and used to have a parasitic alien in my head, you don't judge me for it. So, I promise, here and now, not to judge you or tell you what to do or who to see or what to wear, because that's not what marriage is about."

It was possible she should have written this out and practiced it first.

"I never expected to fall in love, and I didn't imagine when you first moved in that we'd end up here. Still, I'm glad we did."

Barney blinked at her and whispered, "Parasitic alien?" He thought it was a joke.

Barney fished into his jacket pocket and retrieved a simple platinum band that wouldn't detract from the rock he'd given Vala a few months back. "I do. That's the line, right?"

"Works for me," Biff said, nodding. "Vala?"

Vala grinned widely at both of them before handing over the ring (http://www.tiffany.com/Shopping/Item.aspx?sku=GRP00365&mcat=148208&cid=288177&search_params=s+5-p+3-c+288177-r+-x+-n+6-ri+-ni+0-t+) she'd bought for Barney, practically bouncing as her ring was slipped onto her finger. "I do too."

"Mazel tov," Biff replied. "We're done. Go ahead and kiss each other."

He remembered the earlier vows.

"No groping, please."

Just because Biff said not to, Barney made sure to grab Vala's ass while he kissed her. That ass was his now, after all.
