The Park, Saturday Evening

The ceremony had been beautiful. And the evening was only getting started. The guests were ushered into the large tent that had been erected (hee) in the park earlier in the day. The caterers had delivered and set up food and enough free alcohol to drink the entire town into a coma.

Of course, there was a special area reserved for the squirrels with dessert nuts and high-quality rum to keep Vala and Barney's smallest guests happy while they took their notes and danced the night away.

Pleased workers did a last check of the tables and cigar centerpieces before the guests and the wedding party arrived. The wedding reception was set to go exactly as planned.

"They always forget to mention the invasions," Biff sighed.

"All I heard was 'small town, Maryland, be there Tuesday,' " Sarah sighed. "What invades?"

Her hand patted the knife at the small of her back discreetly as she spoke. It was good to know it was still there.

"Depends on the time of year, I think," Biff said. "We had another island invade a few months back, which wasn't exactly a barrel of laughs, but we've also had invasions of dragons made of Jello."

"I would have believed you if you hadn't mentioned the jello dragons," Sarah said.

Then: "Though that's really not any stranger than talking felt frogs ..."

Her stomach was sinking to her shoes, and Beckman had a lot of explaining to do.

"Another drink?" Biff asked helpfully. "Fandom is easier to deal with when it's a little fuzzy."

Sarah drained her beer, counted to 10 to calm herself, and gave Biff an appealing look. "I think I need to switch to vodka tonics."

Biff signaled to the very helpful bartender. "That I can do. You were at the bachelor party, right?"

"Not as a stripper," Sarah quickly clarified. "Which the woman who does radio seems to have thought. But yes, I went to the bar and got drawn into the party."

She attentively watched the bartender. Her drink would be nice. "Do people get hurt in these invasions?"

Two vodka tonics appeared in front of them. "Better," Biff said, picking his up. "Sometimes people get hurt, yeah," Biff said. "We have an overabundance of hero types around here."

"That's something, at least," Sarah said grimly as she drained about half the drink.

It needed more vodka.

Biff looked at her drink, then at the bartender. "Vodka," he said, holding his fingers apart, "vodka, and then tonic."

"Are you used to the hero types, then?"

Sarah laughed and finished the rest of her drink. "Me?" she asked. "I'm from L.A."

No, she wasn't answering.

He noticed that, but wasn't going to call attention to it.

"California, right? Sun, surf, terribly confused pop singers?"

"That would be the place," Sarah nodded, relieved. "Where are you from?"

"Nazareth," Biff replied, "outside of Jerusalem?"

"I've been to Jerusalem," Sarah nodded. (It would be hard to find an agent who hadn't, things in that part of the world being what they were.) "Some of the old parts are so beautiful."

Biff snickered a little to himself as he finished his drink. "Depends on what you think of as old."
