The Park, Saturday Evening

The ceremony had been beautiful. And the evening was only getting started. The guests were ushered into the large tent that had been erected (hee) in the park earlier in the day. The caterers had delivered and set up food and enough free alcohol to drink the entire town into a coma.

Of course, there was a special area reserved for the squirrels with dessert nuts and high-quality rum to keep Vala and Barney's smallest guests happy while they took their notes and danced the night away.

Pleased workers did a last check of the tables and cigar centerpieces before the guests and the wedding party arrived. The wedding reception was set to go exactly as planned.

Eliza smiled, a little wryly. "I've little dowry, and no connections," she confessed. "Any who could offer for me, could also fare far better than myself. And I ... I wouldn't wish to take the first that offered, to hope for happiness where I knew it was likely to never be. I should rather never marry, than that."

Which would mean living off the generosity of one of her sisters. Not a pleasant alternative, either.

Biff nodded. "I've seen the effects of an unhappy marriage," he said, then shook his head ruefully, "not this one, and I wouldn't want that fate for you."

"Nor would I," she admitted. She smiled, still a bit rueful, but aiming for cheer. "So then, allow us to hope that we both may remain unattached, shall we?"
