Caritas - Wednesday Evening

Lois had planned on a quiet evening getting drunk in a bar. The plan was working at first; she came in, sat at the bar and got a beer from Tino. Somehow that all went wrong because a few minutes later she found herself behind the bar with a name tag that said "Lois Lane -- Bar wench" stuck on her shirt. Apparently the regular girl wasn't coming in tonight.

Lois cracked open another beer and glared at Tino. She wasn't a wench, dammit.

Loki needed a break from...his apartment in general. He chose the bar over every other place on the island because the bar had alcohol. Couldn't beat alcohol.

He took a seat and wondered how funny he'd be if he asked for a menu.

Getting out was always a good idea and what better place to mingle than the bar. Besides, they kept the beer there. It was a two-for.

"So now you're a beer wench?" John asked, pulling up a stool and pointing at her shirt.

Oooh, cute guy.

"Hiya. I'm Lois," she gestured to the name tag on her chest. "And apparently I'm your bartender this evening."

"Hey, it's bar wench," she corrected. "Meaning I wench more than beer."

"My apologies," he replied. "Guess I got beer on the brain. 'Course, in my stomach's really where it belongs."

"Then, my luck's changing," he said, smiling widely. "You're a lot better than that fucking weirdo over there."

Loki pointed at Tino, indicating him as 'that fucking weirdo.'

"So what you're trying to tell me is that you want me to get you a beer?" she asked.

"Oh yeah, he's freaking creepy," Lois said, shooting Tino a glare. "I think he needs to get laid or something. I'm by no means volunteering for that job, by the way."

"Don't think I am either," Loki said, directing his words at Tino. "I'd rather eat glass that was on fucking fire."

He felt that made his point.

"You a new bartender?"

"You are a lot smarter than I've heard," John teased. "A beer would be great."

"Uh, no, I just came in for a drink and Tino recruited me. I've never tended bar before in my life," Lois said. "So don't ask for anything fancy because you ain't getting it."

"Well with that kind of sass you're definitely not getting to choose what kind of beer you'll have," Lois replied, sticking her tongue out at him. She got out two bottles of Yuengling and handed one to John.

"Isn't there some instruction manual for drink making?" Loki asked, standing up and peering over the bar. "I know there fucking is. I've seen them in the movies."

He sat back down.

"I don't want anything fancy anyway. Just beer."

Beer was beer as far as John was concerned, so he accepted the bottle and took a swig. "And I'd barely even begun with the sass."

"Yeah, I'm pretty sure I'm not getting paid tonight so the whole instruction manual thing is not worth my time," Lois said, waving her hand dismissively before getting Loki his beer.

"I can handle any sass you can dish out," Lois said. "I'm several beers ahead of you. It's enhanced my good mood."

"Thanks," he said and tipped the bottle to her. "So, not a new bartender. Did you just randomly come to this goddamn place for some reason?"

"Sounds like I just need to catch up," he replied. "Is tonight a night for drinking with purpose or just because?"

"I came up for the same reason as you. To get drunk," Lois said. "I think I got recruited into bartending because I was the first person here. Consider yourself lucky. It could have been you."

"Just because," she said, shrugging. "If I was drinking with purpose I'd be in the lounge knocking back tequila. What about you?"

"I would have punched that idiot in the face," he said easily. "And I meant the town in general, actually. I've rented apartments to like fifty million people who came here voluntarily and it just fucking boggles my mind."
