MHA Lobby, Wednesday

Sometime between Monday and today, Loki had gone to the mainland and purchased himself a dart board complete with the sharpest set of darts he could buy. It was now set up behind the desk and he was lazily shooting them, striking the bullseye almost every single time. The times he missed were mostly just fucking flukes when he got distracted by his thoughts, such as they were.

There were currently four darts stuck in the board and he was currently tossing the fifth one up in the air, catching it between two fingers, sharp point down. This would be one of those things mothers would tell their kids not to do, you could cut yourself, take your fucking eye out, stab someone without meaning to.

Loki hadn't stabbed ANYONE accidentally. They'd all been on purpose. Ah, memories.

He tossed the dart one last time, snagging it out of the hair and hurling it towards the board hard and with pinpoint accuracy. After admiring his handiwork for a moment, he retrieved the darts and started flinging them as hard as he could at the dartboard. Maybe he was picturing someone's face there. Maybe not.

[MHA is open, of course!]

Although Mary had told him he was welcome to stay at the hotel for as long as he wanted, Simon felt that as he seemed to be going to stay in Fandom for a while, he should at least look into the possibility of finding a place of his own. Actually, he hadn't had a place of his own in a long time, and the idea was appealing. He entered the lobby. "Hello?"

Simon blinked, hesitating for a moment before saying: "I'm looking for an apartment."

"I've been here for a few weeks," Simon said, following the flight of the dart. "And it looks like I'm going to have to stay longer than I first anticipated."

Looking a little confused, Simon replied: "A tent? But there's an actual apartment too?"

Of course there were plenty of border moons where people lived in tents, but he expected Fandom to be a little more civilized. "Then I'd rather stay in my hotel room," he said with a sight. "You have nothing else?"

The man was starting to get on his nerves. "I don't need a tent," he replied a little curtly. "Can I have a look at the apartments."

Simon caught the keys, frowning a little, and headed off to inspect the apartments.

Returning a while later, he placed the keys on the desk. "I'll think about it," he said, then added: "Do you work here often?"

The landlord. He really had to think about this. Mary - who certainly was a lot nicer - had said he could stay at the hotel, after all. "I'll think about it," Simon repeated, then turned and headed towards the door.

"Nice aim," Daisy, dressed and ready to head to work with a few more extra minutes to spare than in previous mornings, commented, feeling the observation to be horribly understated.

Loki must have had a lot of time to practise, then. "Morning," Daisy offered back and returned the smile. "Not nearly as productive as Christmas decorations, but it'll keep your arm in shape, I'm sure."

Daisy's eyes took in the dart a moment, and she shrugged. "Fluke or not," she said, "I like them."

Then she offered out her hand. "Let me have a go? It's been forever," as in almost never, "since I've played darts, but one throw to start the day sounds good."

Daisy nodded, moving around to reaccommodate herself to the target. She inspected it carefully, calculatingly, hand holding the dart just above her shoulder. Same concept as aiming a gun, she supposed, although the power behind it would be significant lessened. Still, eyes narrowed, she took into account Loki's already-there bulls-eyes, and then imagined the dart as a symbol, for justice, flying true and straight and steady...

...she missed her mark, just a little low and to the left, but didn't seem to bothered with a little laugh. "Well," she said, "that's not too bad."

"Training," Daisy modestly explained away the compliment to form, taking the dart again with a small amount of bouncing before returning to the same mark as before and channeling in her focus. "'Course, I've never trained with darts before, but maybe now I should."

And she threw again, this time hitting along the centre, but far too high of the bull's-eye. It still stuck with a surprising resilience, though, as if it didn't matter that it wasn't hitting the right spot, it was going to hit as hard as it could.

"Not as good as that one" Daisy remarked on Loki's own bull's-eye. "And, I swear, it's all mostly training. They stuck me on jobs that didn't exactly lend themselves to experience of this nature."

"And I'm going to make an assumption back," Daisy responded with a smirk, moving to get a handful of darts from the board, "and claim that luck hasn't got nearly as much to do with it as you say. I would think it was modesty, but that doesn't seem to suit you at all."

She returned to split the darts, keeping two to herself and offer the other two to Loki, even as he was getting comfortable against the wall.

Daisy mildly observed Loki testing the end of the dart a moment before her attention shifted back to the board and she let her first dart fly, steady and true, but a little mis-aimed to the left again. "Can't argue that!" she agreed. "Facts are tricky business, anyway. They rarely tell the whole story. Not without more, harder-to-find facts behind it, anyway."

Daisy cocked her head toward the board; his throw. But she had an idea she knew where it would end up, and, in a way, she wondered if that sort of took the fun out of the game out of it, being that good of a shot, knowing it was going to hit dead centre every time.

"Getting the good facts is hard work," she offered, "and where it starts to get interesting. Have to be ready to dig a bit, but the digging's the fun work."

Re: Talk to Loki!

[identity profile] justice-beat.livejournal.com 2008-11-19 10:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Daisy blinked a little at the near hit, wondering if it was intentionally imperfect. She didn't think on it long, though, focusing her own throw to get it, not in the centre, but where she aimed, just above Loki's.

"Exactly. Take those last two throws," she said, nodding toward the board. "Fact is, neither of us hit the bull's-eye. But did either of us hit our mark?"

[identity profile] justice-beat.livejournal.com 2008-11-19 10:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Daisy smiled at where the dart landed. "Won't know unless you ask," she noted, and then turned, as smartly as her present state of dress would suggest, and added, "Which reminds me. Still got something in your pocket for me, or did I miss my chance?"

"Well, I'm glad to take it off your hands, then," Daisy said, and did just that, taking it, and then, neatly, tucking it into the breast pocket of her shirt. "Thank you, Loki; I'll leave you to your darts and might find myself actually early for work this time." She looked up with a smile once it was secured and then, rather sweetly, leaned in and up with the same focus she used to aim her darts, to aim a kiss on his cheek. In gratitude. Or good-bye. Or whatever.

"Will do!" Daisy gave a little wave as she headed toward the door. "See you later, Loki."
