Penelope was not in a social mood tonight. In fact when she came to work she started drinking. One beer after the next. Being a drunk bartender just meant she was doing her job right. Didn't it? The I-don't-give-a-crap mood was new, but she was trying it on and thought she liked it.

Leave her alone.

Hurley sat down at the bar.

"Penelope?" he said, looking for her.

"Whaaaaaat?" she said, popping up from behind the counter, an umbrella stuck behind her ear.

"Whoa, nice. The umbrella totally suits you," Hurley said with a smile.

"Are you flirting with me?" she sing-songed.

"Ummm.... I... aren't you and Liir going out?" Hurley said.

"What?" she frowned. "Why would you think that?"

"I thought... or was that just a Homecoming thing?" Hurley said, quick.

Penelope took a long sip of her beer. "Yes. Yes. Yes. Just a thing. A dance thing. He doesn't like me like me. Like that. Who would ever like me? Like that? Riiiidiculous."

"Whoa, Penelope," Hurley said. "How many of those have you had?"

She held up her beer. "Those? Ummmmmmm," she looked over at Tino who held up five fingers. "Five, Hurley. I've have five of those."

"Whoa," Hurley said. "Ummm... you okay?"

"Do I not look okay?"

"You seem kinda drunk," Hurley said.

"Yes," she nodded morosely. "Yes. Yes. I am."

"Any particular reason?" Hurley said.

"Am I supposed to have a reason?" she asked, frowning.

"Well... I just..." Hurley said. "Are you okay?"

"Do you know I gave something to somebody two days ago and I feel like an idiot now. An idiot!" she laughed. "I'm stupid. That's what's wrong. I'm a freak and I'm stupid and oh no I don't feel very well."

"Okay, you need, like... water, a hug, and... stuff," Hurley said.

"Okay. Okay. Okay. Whoa. Deep breath," she inhaled sharply. "Water sounds kind of icky though."

"Okay, maybe just... no more beer," Hurley said. "That okay with you?"

This day has been looooooong.
