When Pepper had come into the bar and noticed that there was only a rather surly-looking young man, she asked him for a martini.

When he brushed her off, she asked to speak to a manager.

When one wasn't available, she asked to speak to another employee.

When she found out there weren't any others, and he had wandered into the back again, she decided to make her own damn drink.

And maybe she could just stay behind the bar tonight. At least until someone competent showed up.

Romeo had opted not to spoil a nice long weekend with extraneous things like leaving the dorms more than necessary, but it was at an end now and it seemed like a good time for a quiet drink with Yurika.

He smiled at the bartender, not recognizing her. "Beer, please," he said. "Are you new?"

"In a manner of speaking," she replied dryly, locating the appropriate glass and tap. "I normally don't tend bar, um...well, ever."

"How did you end up doing it tonight?" Romeo asked. "You seem to have a natural gift, at the least."

She raised her brows at that, commenting, "Well, no one else was doing the job."

"So you nobly decided to help out," Romeo said, undaunted. "Very noble, and much-appreciated."

"Noble. That's a new one," she said, smiling genuinely.

"Giving me a beer is a noble deed," Romeo said, leaning forward. "It should be called such."

"You're quite the little flatterer," Pepper noted. "Are you trying to keep me from checking your ID? Because I really don't think anyone here cares."

Romeo almost flushed at that. "It's more flattery for the sake of flattery," he admitted. "I like to stay in practice."

Yurika arrived a little bit later, shivering a bit from the weather. Stupid winter. Stupid Maryland.

She tossed a bright smile at the woman she didn't recognize before sliding in next to Romeo. "Ohaiyo, aijin. Buy a girl a drink?"

"Anytime, love," Romeo said, grinning and leaning in for a kiss hello. "What will you have, and how has your day gone?"

"Gin and tonic?" she asked, more than happy to lean closer and oblige him with a kiss. "I think my toes are permanently frozen! I spent the afternoon walking around town putting up posters for my thing tomorrow, and now I can't get warm."

"The seminar with Reno?" Romeo asked. "You know I shall not miss it. I am still woeful I was in the clinic for your first one."

"I'm rather 'woeful' that you were in the clinic last time too," she pointed out, squeezing his knee with a small smile. "If we get invaded tomorrow, I'm going to be really annoyed."

Romeo held up one hand. "I promise not to get shot again, on my honor. I'd offer you the chance to finish the job if I did, except I fear you would take it."

He never underestimated Yurika.

"Oh, but if you're dead, then I can't make you wish you were," she said sweetly, batting her lashes at him. "Killing you for getting shot again would take all the fun out of it."

"Killing the other person, however, that I could enjoy." She'd even get the rest of the posse to join in.

"But there will be no getting shot tomorrow, and no invasions," Yurika said firmly. "Unless it's an invasion of information. Honestly, the faculty's attitude towards sex at this school is abominable."

Sam decided to come to the bar after work. After a weekend with his family he figured he deserved a drink.

"Can I get a--" he froze when he saw who was behind the bar. "Miss Potts?"

"...hello, Sam," Pepper said, sighing internally. "I'm only a substitute tonight."

"But y--are you visiting?" Sam said. The last time he'd seen her, after all, had been Parents' Weekend. "I mean, if you want to tend bar while you're visiting, hey, your call."

"I...moved to town a month ago," Pepper told him slowly, smiling. "I didn't realize Mr. Stark hadn't told you."

"No," Sam said. "Actually I--I haven't seen much of him lately." Which, combined with the facts that he was pretty sure he'd been hired A) because of his car, which had left and B) to be Pepper's substitute, led to: "Am I--am I like, fired? And he forgot to tell me?"

"Not that I'm aware," she said, looking surprised at that. "Is there a reason you should be, though?" It wouldn't exactly be out of character for Tony to forget to tell her to fire someone. Though wow she didn't want to fire Sam.

"I--I was like, his Pepper substitute because you were in California or whatever," Sam said. "Only less with the accomplished. And, well, here you are...living here."

"I can't do everything, Sam," she said as reassuringly as she knew how. "Believe me, he can use the both of us."
