Although she had her doubts at the very beginning of it, Daisy's weekend had been just what she needed before today. A fresh start on the week, a fresh start on any investigations, and, hopefully, a fresh start was all they needed.

She sipped her tea, sifted through her paperwork, and got ready to watch the way the wind blew.

You could practically feel the heat radiating off of Ray from her desk so Daisy, wondering if he needed help, had slipped into the room quietly.

"Legally," she broke in, "Mister Stark?"

She gave a slight nod toward Ray, letting him know that she could help or leave or whatever it was that might help the situation.

It wasn't exactly her usual tack, nor was it regulation by any means, but Daisy's previous encounter with this particular witness had her at least trying a little subtle persuasion with a few more buttons on her shirt undone.

Which certainly brightened his day right up. "Detective Constable Day. Proper channels have been gone through to chastise the General responsible."

"Chastise?" Daisy asked, head tilting. "Are we prosecuting abductions with light little raps on the wrist now, Mister Stark?"

And the glorified secretary bit that slipped in after that was more habit than strategy. "You boys need anything? Water? Coffee?"

"Clearly you're not used to dealing with the U.S. government when their own screw up," Tony replied, taking advantage of the view of her cleavage. She could have been a little more subtle, but who was he to complain.

Daisy wasn't sure subtly was how Tony worked, anyway.

"Clearly," she admitted a little ruefully. "Is that what it is, then? Trying to protect someone, Mister Stark?"

"You'll have to take my word on it that this will never happen again."

At least, not if Fury wanted him to be on that damn team.

"Not happening again," Daisy noted, "doesn't erase the fact that it happened at all, Mister Stark."

"I'd give you the number of someone who could confirm it, but sadly they don't officially exist."

Daisy quirked an eyebrow. "You'd be willing to give us a number that doesn't exist, but not a name that does?"

"What good will it do you?" Tony asked. "To get the name?"

A hell of a lot more good than what you're doing us, Mister Stark.

"At the very least?" Daisy shrugged. "Help us keep the peace around this place and make sure something like this doesn't happen again, Mister Stark. At best? Bring a little more justice into this world."

"I've already made sure it won't happen again," Tony said, voice going a bit steely. "And justice is more than done. Detective Constable."

"Legally, Mister Stark. Inside the confines of laws created and designed to protect the people. Vigilantism is best left to comic books."

"Did I say anything about vigilantism?" Tony asked, rearing back.

"You haven't really said much of anything, Mister Stark."

"Because, quite frankly, I have nothing to share. I--My company used to deal almost exclusively with the U.S. military and I used my contacts there to help ascertain Mr. Durden's freedom. What else can I tell you?"

"The name of the parties involved in Mister Durden's capture."

Which she could have sworn she'd mentioned at least once or twice.

"General Ross. Three stars." He raised three fingers in case that was needed.

"Thank you, Mister Stark," Daisy nodded graciously at finally getting something out of him, thought it was quite a feat to keep from sighing in relief and telling him now, that wasn't so bad, was it? "Have we got a first name to go with that title?"

""Thaddeus." The way he said it almost made one think it was a joke.

Well, that certainly would help narrow it down, although Stark's voice made Daisy wonder if, the moment he left and they looked into it, they'd be pulling their hair out in frustration as they cursed his ancestors and future spawn alike.

Which was a little overdramatic, she supposed, but she was feeling tense with all of this.

"Any other information you'd like to provide regarding General Ross would be greatly appreciated, Mister Stark."

"Nothing that'll help." Not that the name would help them too much.
