Caritas - Tuesday Evening [Open]

Marshall was nowhere to be found today. Maybe he got his hand stuck in the ice machine. Maybe he was in the midst of a fistfight in the back alley. Maybe he was asleep in front of the TV and completely forgot it was Tuesday.

It was probably the last one.

Having little else better to do on a Tuesday and perhaps hoping something interesting might be happening this week like the one before it, Daisy found her way to the bar, had a seat, and flagged Tino down for a (surprise, surprise) vodka and orange.

Loki didn't want to have to talk to Tino so he found a spot in the lounge and kicked up his feet to relax after a long, hard work day.

...

Okay, it wasn't long or hard at all but it was nice not to spend another night in his apartment. At least here, there was ambiance.

"Well, look at you." By the time she was on her second drink, Daisy'd noticed Loki there and decided to come say hi. "Seem pretty comfy."

"Well, then I look how I feel," he said, smiling up at her. "Surprisingly comfortable lounge area. It's like the bedroom with zombies I never wanted."

"Are you telling me," Daisy asked, having a seat, "you never wanted zombies in your bedroom?"

"Oddly enough, yes, that's what I'm telling you," he said, turning his head to look at her. "It kind of fucks thing up, you know? Makes things weird. Because then there's the story of how I got a zombie in my room and why he doesn't leave and then I hurt the zombies feeling and there's therapy and then I just have to throw him out and move and go into hiding from the damn zombie."

Daisy looked at Loki for a moment, and then she shook her head. "You know," she said, "I had a really good joke built up about skeletons in your closet, but you've talked so much that I think I lost the right rhythm for it."

"And that was nothing," he said and waved a hand. "Nothing at all. I could speechify all day if I didn't think I'd get bored of it and want to go to sleep. Fuck the skeletons, they'd leave my closet if I ever got to talking to them."

"You have to admit, though," Daisy said, "it would have been a good one."

"You should've shut me up," he chided lightly. "I'm not so narcissistic that I'd talk over someone who was attempting to make a joke at my expense."

"Yes," agreed Daisy, "but I'm not so rude as to interrupt someone who is clearly enjoying the sound of his own voice."

"But," he said, holding up a finger, "I think you would have interrupted me if said voice grated on you enough. Which means, maybe you liked it too."

Daisy grinned. "If I didn't," she said, "I'd have just saved myself the trouble and not have come over. I would have just stayed over at the bar and played quarters with Tino. He's quite good, you know."

"You chose me over Tino?" He batted his eyelashes and put a hand on his chest. "You really know how to charm a guy. If I were standing, I'd swoon."

"You're doing a fine job of it from here, trust me," said Daisy, as her grin gained a light laugh.

"I am a much better company than Tino," he declared. "Sure, he holds the keys to the booze but...my hair's a lot fucking better. And I'm...nicer."

Daisy gave Loki a calculating look, head tilted thoughtfully.

"Well," she finally said, reaching over to ruffle it, "I can't argue about the hair."

"Hey, I'm an incredibly nice---okay, no, I'm not," he said and made a face before shaking his now ruffled hair. "I have my moments. No one can be nice all the time. Their face would get tired from the incessant smiling."

If Daisy were a more self-aware person, she might have commented on how her face was never tired.

However, she was not, and so her only response was a laugh and a reassuring, "Oh, I still think you're pretty nice."

"You think?" He still didn't see it personally. "Maybe you're getting special privileges where that comes in."

[So SO sorry. My internet died last night.]

"Oh? And what would I have done to earn me special privileges?"
