Sing.

"Amber called her uncle, said "We're up here for the holiday,
Jane and I were having Solstice, now we need a place to stay."
And her Christ-loving uncle watched his wife hang Mary on a tree,
He watched his son hang candy canes all made with red dye number three.
He told his niece, "It's Christmas Eve, I know our life is not your style,"
She said, "Christmas is like Solstice, and we miss you and its been awhile,"

So the Christians and the Pagans sat together at the table,
Finding faith and common ground the best that they were able,
And just before the meal was served, hands were held and prayers were said,
Sending hope for peace on earth to all their gods and goddesses.

The food was great, the tree plugged in, the meal had gone without a hitch,
Till Timmy turned to Amber and said, "Is it true that you're a witch?"
His mom jumped up and said, "The pies are burning," and she hit the kitchen,
And it was Jane who spoke, she said, "It's true, your cousin's not a Christian,"
"But we love trees, we love the snow, the friends we have, the world we share,
And you find magic from your God, and we find magic everywhere."

So the Christians and the Pagans sat together at the table,

And where does magic come from? I think magic's in the learning,
'Cause now when Christians sit with Pagans only pumpkin pies are burning.

When Amber tried to do the dishes, her aunt said, "Really, no, don't bother."
Amber's uncle saw how Amber looked like Tim and like her father.
He thought about his brother, how they hadn't spoken in a year,
He thought he'd call him up and say, "It's Christmas and your daughter's here."
He thought of fathers, sons and brothers, saw his own son tug his sleeve, saying,
"Can I be a Pagan?" Dad said, "We'll discuss it when they leave."

Lighting trees in darkness, learning new ways from the old, and
Making sense of history and drawing warmth out of the cold."

Drink.

Robin was bundled up in a parka for the trip to Caritas, nevertheless he was shivering when he arrived. Some cocoa would go really great just now.

So what if she had a sex ed final first thing tomorrow. Like Angela was intending to swot up on not having sex over meeting up with Peyton for a drink.

She grinned at Marshall as she slipped on a barstool. "Got anything exciting drinks-wise going tonight?" she asked.

Peyton slid onto a stool next to her. "You beat me here!"

"You'd be surprised how study avoidance makes you early for things," Angela said, smiling at Peyton. "Hi, Sweetie."

"Two down, two to go," Peyton said. "And get this, I somehow ended up volunteering to go to Endor, the planet where the Ewok babies were from, over break. With Professor Skywalker. Death wish or what?"

"I thought you hated the guy," Angela said. "Why are you traveling across a galaxy with him?"

She paused. "And it worries me, that asking questions like that is starting to feel normal."

"I don't exactly hate him," Peyton protested. "We got along fine till the whole Ewok baby thing."

She shook her head, "Which only makes it more stupid that I'm going. But I still owe him two detentions by the end of the term and they haven't been running them and so I stupidly asked if this could count for them."

"Planetary field trip beats detention, I'd say," Angela decided. "What are you going to do out there?"

"Rebuilding Ewok houses? Maybe," Peyton said. "Of course he's only letting it count for one of them."

Angela pulled a face at that. "Visiting other worlds to build houses should so count for multiple," she said. "It's got to be more than a day or so you're there for, right?"

"It's like 3 days," Peyton agreed. "But I wasn't about to argue with him."

"Two sets of detention is probably more than enough to be getting on with," Angela agreed. "So badass," she teased.

Peyton laughed and ran a hand through her hair. "Oh yeah, I'm going up to the Big House any day now."

"The better idea is not to get caught," Angela said with a laugh of her own.

"Or learn to keep my mouth shut and my eye rolling for when I'm way out of eyeshot," Peyton said with a rueful grin.

"That also helps," Angela said with a smirk. "And is exactly what I do when it comes to our sex ed teacher."

"Yeah, he sounds like a jerk," Peyton said. "What century did he come from? The same as my Literature teacher - yet another person who gave me detention - probably."

"I haven't asked," Angela admitted with a shrug. "But finding out he's from a century or so ago would not surprise me all that much."

Peyton nodded. "I think that's the thing I find hardest to deal with. Which is crazy. But for some reason aliens and people from different dimensions are easier to deal with than people from the past."

"Of course, I'm the exception to the rule," Angela said, grinning at her.

Peyton facepalmed. "Yes, of course, and I mean, not like a handful of years, I mean like centuries."

"I got what you were getting at," Angela said with a laugh. "Other than knowing next to nothing about what went on the last decade or so, I'm pretty well settled in the 21st century."

Peyton nodded. "Though I have a feeling we'd have ended up friends regardless of which century we both were from."

"One of those inevitabilities," she said, beaming at Peyton.

"Absolutely," Peyton said, toasting her. "From our first matchmaking scheme to... God only knows where."

"Bet it'll be somewhere fun, though," Angela said, happily chinking her glass against Peyton's.

"Hell, yeah," Peyton said with a grin. "Fun, gorgeous guys to watch - even if they're the orderlies at our nursing home."

"They wear uniforms, right?" Angela said. "You've got to love that."

"Nice white slacks, strong..." Peyton smiled at the image. "Of course, we'll make sure it's a nice upscale nursing home with only the realy attractive orderlies."

Angela laughed. "Well, that was a given."

"Still, some things should be spelled out - just in case," Peyton replied smugly.

"Can't hurt, at least, to do a little forward planning." Angela sipped at her drink. "Although, concentrating on the hot guys of now is also a great option."

"If only they were concentrating on me," Peyton said with a grin.

"You're gorgeous," Angela said. "You can bet if we go out on the mainland sometime, they will be." She nodded firmly. Men on this island really did seem to be largely gay or taken.

"Well, then we should definitely go hit a mainland bar," Peyton said firmly.

"Could combine it with this girls night out I keep talking about and not doing anything about," Angela said, sipping at her drink thoughtfully. It was an idea.

"That sounds like an excellent idea. And after Friday I'm free - until I haed to Endor."

"Maybe Saturday," Angela pondered. "I'll have to see how things work out."

"Just let me know," Peyton said with a grin.

Yep.

OMFG I'm exhausted tonight but I feel like I should send Jen in next week or something, now, just 'cause.
