Turtle and Canary, Monday

Sokka had a lot on his mind this morning, after having just shared tea with General Iroh. So much so that once he started making "SALE: All school supplies 15% off!" and "Special discount for new students" signs and putting them in the window, he sort of... forgot to stop.

Eventually, he looked up and realized that the front of the store was all window dressing and no window, and that he could no longer see out. He solved the problem by making a BIGGER sign saying "I assure you, we're open!" and pasting it on the front of the window, over the other signs. Ingenuity at its finest.

Then he grabbed a Squishy and settled in to a long day of selling things to people for money.

After classes, Dinah headed down to Turtle & Canary, as Turtle had recommended, and started browsing the aisles for throwing things. And boomerangs. Aaaand maybe some school supplies in there too.

"Hi, Sokka!"

"Dinah! My new favoritest person! How are you doing?"

Sokka grinned at her and took a sip of his Squishy. "Try the Squishies; they're delishies! Uh, delicious, I mean."

"Ooo," Dinah said, picking up a can of tennis balls and going over to the Squishy machine. "Roast Beef? Nooooo. Red or Grape? Grape or Red? Decisions, decisions. What are you drinking?"

"Roast Beef, of course," Sokka told her. "Frozen slushy meaty goodness! But, if you want something less adventurous, the FDA has ruled that Grape Judas does not technically count as an addictive substance, it's just that good."

Dinah made a yuck-face, then laughed. "Grape treachery it is! And I was looking for the boomerangs? And maybe some badminton birdies? I need to practice my aim."

Sokka frowned. "Those should have both been near where you grabbed your balls," he told her, gesturing at the can. "You sure you didn't see them? Maybe they're stashed in the back until spring, or something. Hang on."

He headed off towards the sports aisle, to help look.

Dinah looked around, admitting, "Probably, but I got distracted. That happens a lot to me... Oo, hey, darts!"

Chad would be *thrilled* if she put up a dartboard in their room. Not.

"Here we go!" Sokka told her, as he started gathering an armful of different-sized and -shaped boomerangs, both wooden and foam. "Boomerang central -- Ooh, yeah, darts! Those are always fun!"

"Nerf! And ooo, that one looks cool. And yay, here's the birdies!" Dinah grabbed an armful of boomerangs and birdies too, feeling gleeful. "I am going to get so much practice time in, it'll be awesome!"

Sokka grinned and waggled his eyebrows. "Watch this," he told her.

He carefully selected a boomerang, eyed up its shape, weighed it in his hand, and then threw it. It zoomed once around the store, circled Apu's head two or three times, bounced off the front window, and ended up back in Sokka's hand. "And that's how it's done," he told her.

"Awesome!" Dinah glee'd, then couldn't resist, picking up one of the lighter ones. "Watch!"

Biff, zing, bounce off the Squishie machine, turn and.... okay, at least it came back down the right aisle, right? Never mind that display.

Sokka watched the boomerang's flight, wincing. "Uh... Maybe you start with throwing it around outside and just getting it to come back to you?"

"Maybe?" Dinah agreed, wincing and picking up the knocked-over cardboard sign. "It's not like I don't have huge amounts of time. I don't have another class until Friday!"

It was like being in college. Only cooler!

"Want to meet up tomorrow afternoon, then?" Sokka asked. "Outside. The salle might be a bit confining to start in."

"Works for me! The dorm lawn, maybe? I was going to look around the island today, get the hang of the layout." She picked up the rest of the toys and headed for the register, picking up her Grape Judas and slurping. "Mmmm. MMMMMMMMMM. Okay, I need another one of these to go, too."

Apu Nahasapeemapetilon is always on hand to sell you things, whenever Sokka is out and about, or asleep, or lost in the aisles buying things for himself. Mod him as needed.

Also on hand and moddable: Liz the robot security dog, and Bob the Squishybot, dispenser of the Squishies.

Believe it or not, I saw someone do that in real life. Someone had thrown a brick through the window of a 7-11, so it was boarded over with plywood and had an "I assure you, we're open" sign on it.
