Turtle & Canary, Wednesday, 1/7

Amber was at work and actually working. She didn't have her tap shoes on, but that didn't keep her from working her feet as she swept along aisles, cleaning and straightening, and doing a bit of restocking where needed.

When that was finished, she made a display of Spam. It had been too long since it was on sale and it seemed T&C had an overabundance. It was kind of fun stacking the cans anyhow. That or she was just feeling overproductive.

Claudia walked into the store. She'd wanted to make sure that Amber would see her (and was trying to counter the nasty weather), so she'd put on a pair of orange plaid pants with purple suspenders, a bright blue sweater, and a pair of yellow rain boots. The matching rain coat had been painted with pictures of fish and aquatic life.

Her hair was up in six braids swinging from the sides of her head and were kept out of the giant rainbow-striped hoop earrings by years of practice. On anyone else, it would be time to call the psych ward. On Claudia, it looked great.

"Amber?"

Amber turned around from where she was contemplating opening a can of BBQ Spam, and whoa. Brightly colored girl front and center.

Blinking, she took a moment to carefully consider her attire and oh yah, the purple suspenders were an instant hit.

She grinned cheerfully. "Yah, you betcha. You must be Claudia?"

"That's me!" Claudia replied cheerfully. "Hi! Wow, artistic display there!"

"Oh, it's nice to meet you!" she said. "And yah, I know. I try to go for different displays every week. Something to do, you know? Hey, you like Spam? It's on sale today!"

"Sure!" Claudia replied. "I'll paint a still life of them or something. It'll be great!"

Awesome! Turtle would be pleased to know that Amber's displays totally worked. "Like... eight cans?" Random number was random. "And you're an artist? I am too. Not seriously, or anything. Just for fun when I'm bored."

"How about five?" Claudia countered. Random number was equally random. "I like odd numbers. And I'm totally an artist. I made these earrings!"

"Five it is," she said and bagged them up before paying better attention to Claudia's earrings. "No way! My ma would totally love those. You ever make any to sell?"

"Sure!" Claudia said. "I have to keep myself in junk food and art supplies some how. I don't see a lot of people to babysit around here."

Her brows shot upwards. "Nah, I don't think there are any kids. Um, unless we turn into kids but then when we're kids we don't need babysitters 'cause we're all kids and just being kids..." ... "You know?"

...

"So think you can make me a pair of purple sparkly ones? I'll totally pay you."

Claudia stared. "...why would we turn into kids?"

Someone had missed out on key parts of Fandom while thinking everyone was on drugs at the picnic, yes.

"Oh my gosh, it happens around here. Wee tiny this, wee tiny that, totally cute wee things." Nod nod nod.

"UM," Claudia said eloquently.

"I know, right?"

Brain breaky? Was kind of fun.

"We once were turned into little ponies."

"Everyone here needs to lay off the drugs," Claudia said emphatically.

"Yah, they're illegal, Claudia. I'm pretty sure the only one who might have any is Chuck Bass. But he's pretty cool." Um.

"Has someone checked the water to see if it's causing mass hallucinations?" asked poor, deluded Claudia.

Amber grinned. "Water's fine. It's Fandom. Home of the weird and unusual. Kind of like a carnivale; anything can happen so you just kind of go with the flow."

Claudia was clutching her bag of SPAM. "Really?"

"Uh-huh, but don't worry, okay? It's kind of fun. A little weird sometimes, but fun. Woke up as a guy once, with all the plumbing, if you know what I mean."

Claudia burst out laughing. "No way!"

"Oh, way! Way way way! I was pretty hot if I do say so myself. And hey, you never know, it could happen again while you're here."

"Think I'd be a hot guy?" Claudia asked.

Amber didn't hesitate. "Oh my gosh yah." A brightly colored one too.

Well that's not so bad, then. "I'm sure you were completely cute," Claudia said with a grin. "What's around here to do when you're not a boy or a pony or a small child?"

"There's Caritas. The zombie bar in town that doesn't card," she suggested.

"Costumes?" Claudia asked. "Or real, smelly zombies?"

"Real smelly zombies," Amber said. "They're the bar's karaoke band."

"There's karaoke?!" Claudia squealed, zombies completely forgotten.

"Uh-huh! Do you sing, Claudia?" she asked, grinning at her squeal.

"I do!" Claudia said. A chance for people to stare at her? She was so there.

"Well, have to go sometime so I can hear you! I sing too," she said.

"What kind of music?" Claudia asked. "I looooove New Kids."

Claudia was a little out of time.

"Oh, they'll play anything," she said. New Kids. Hah! She listened to them when she was like... younger.

"Yay!" Claudia replied. "I have very modern tastes."

No you don't, sweetie.

...Okay, Jack had to investigate. Porktastic?

Which was what he asked of Amber. "Um. Porktastic?"

Amber smirked. "Never had Spam, Jack?"

"I think so?" he stated. Questionylike. "But...Porktastic?" He tilted his head, confused.

"Spam is pork, Jack." What was confusing about that?

"Oh, okay. I get it." He didn't. "So what's your best way to Spam?"

Amber shook her head, grinning. "I don't Spam, Jack. But I do eat it." It's cheap after all.

"Sounds like there's a Spam day in the common room. Or there will be," he declared.

"Only if you're gonna buy some and cook it?"

"Maybe I will. Maybe I'll cook a whole mess of it."

It would be a mess.

"I can do that. Five cans?"

Porktastic will never not make me laugh.
