Caritas, Wednesday, 1/21

Penelope was very glad to find Caritas warm when she came in for her shift. The power was on and she couldn't be more pleased. What she was surprised to find, however, was a wheelbarrow of snow parked next to the counter where Tino was making miniture snowmen. He was lining the bar counter with them and sticking umbrellas in their heads for hats. He decorated the rest with peanuts and pretzels and yellow liquor.

...and they were melting all over the place.

Sighing, Penelope stepped behind the counter and began placing them in small bowls so they wouldn't leak everywhere.

The band was playing Frosty the Snowman to keep with the theme of things.

As soon as she warmed up, she might think all of it cute. But yellow liquor? That's kind of ... ew.

Hoshi raised an eyebrow at the choice of music, but at least the place was warm.

"Could I get a hot chocolate with a shot of Kahlua, please?" She figured that would really take away the chill from being outdoors.

"Thanks," said Hoshi, giving the other girl what she hoped was a friendly smile. "That weather is certainly something else. I don't think I've ever seen that much snow for real."

"I'm Hoshi, a friend of Hurley's. It's good to finally meet you. I've heard so much about you," said Hoshi, still smiling. She went to take a sip of her hot chocolate and realized that she could have phrased that a little better.

"I mean, Hurley's told me a lot about you. Not that I heard about you from anyone else," she quickly added.

"Yeah, Hurley is really fond of you. He's my little sibling, you see, so I've been keeping an eye out for him," said Hoshi.

She seemed really sweet, Hoshi realized. Definitely not someone she needed to worry about.

"This must be an interesting place to work," she said, glancing over at the stage. "I'm not sure I'd want to hang out with those zombies. Then again, I have to deal with a maniac chef myself."

"And warm is definitely an advantage right now," said Hoshi. "I'm hoping my boss has a back-up generator, or otherwise that hotel will be awfully cold while I have to be there tomorrow."

Hurley was wearing a big blue cloak lined with fur over his already pretty bundled-up form. He sat at the bar and shivered for a moment.

"Oh dude, it is so not fun out there," he said.

"Liir loaned it to me," Hurley said. "Since I was worried about the cold. It's really not this cold out in Santa Monica." He smiled at her, pleasantly.

"Dude, it's warmer here than in my dorm," Hurley said.

"Dude, that is a great idea," Hurley said. "Don't suppose I could too, huh?"

"Shucks. And here I was thinking, we could have a little private slumber party," Hurley joked. Sort of.
