Fast Eddie's [late afternoon]

Ben stared down at the pair of ugly, ugly, ugly bowling shoes in his hand with a frown. "I don't know why my own shoes aren't good enough," he complained to Tahiri. "They're black! And shiny!"

He frowned a little harder. "And, you know, match each other."

[OOC: For the daaaaaaate and great SP justice.]

Tahiri was holding her bowling shoes -- the left one orange and tan, the right one brown and green -- out almost at arm's length, looking not so much frowny as appalled. "You better appreciate that I'm putting these on for you," she told him. "Is it part of the rules that they have to be this ugly?"

"Well, as a color scheme at least it's consistently awful," Tahiri decided, and dropped into a seat to put the shoes on. Yes, there was grimacing, but there were also signs that said bowling shoes had to be worn at all times on the lanes.

Most people would go over to the rack and pick a ball with the right weight and grip, but nooooo. A purple ball picked completely at random floated over and settled in the ball return much more lightly than it should have, considering it was a 16-pounder. "That makes more sense than it being designed this way on purpose. I don't care if it was; this theory is less scary," Tahiri said as she finished tying those awful neon shoelaces and sat up.

"You have to have bowling callsigns?" Tahiri got up and came over to peer at the screen. "This sport is weird."

"Me neither." Tahiri shifted a little to lean against him. "I like my name just fine."

Tahiri grinned and shuffled her feet a little in the weird ugly shoes. "Are you going to come up with a nickname for yourself?"

She reached over to poke him in the arm. "I just wanted to see if you would end up having to type something really complicated into that computer."

She let him poke her, then tried to hook her own finger around his. "Something with lots of dashes. Like I'm-Not-Really-a-Skywalker-I-Just-Play-One-In-Holos."

She laughed -- every now and then it still surprised her how easy that was around Ben -- and eyed the computer screen. "Except I don't think it'll give us that many letters. We might just have to be us."

"Who says?" Tahiri demanded, but she managed to pry herself away and stepped up onto the lane. "Whoa. These stupid shoes are slippery!"

"I'm not --" wobble -- "going to fall," Tahiri insisted. "And when did you have time to read up on all the game rules?"

Tahiri got the wobbling under control and narrowed her eyes playfully at him. "Keep hoping, but don't hold your breath. You'd have the right to tease me forever if it happened, but it's not going to."

Now, about that bowling ball. There was a momentary hitch when she went to pick it up, but with a little Force assistance Tahiri was on her way toward the line with the ball and absolutely no technique whatsoever. With a very loud crash the ball hit the lane and rolled very, very slowly toward the pins.

"That'll make me ancient." She stuck her tongue out at him and gave the ball a Force nudge. Hard.
