Groovy Tunes, Wednesday

Alice had escaped yesterday's epidemic of truth-telling fairly unscathed. She was, however, curious enough about the phenomenon to flip through the racks until she found enough song titles to set up a playlist.

Groovy Tunes was open, and Alice would give you her honest opinion on your music selection. But only if you requested such.

Dinah came in after cheerleading practice, after leaving a message for Triela to meet her here. She bopped along with the music in the store, trying to decide if she wanted more techno to work out to or some Red Hot Chili Peppers. "Hi!" She waved to Alice. "Any recs for the week?"

Triela wasn't far behind Dinah, having just caught sight of her entering the store. Which was good since it meant she could be sure she was in the right place.

So it wasn't more than a minute before she entered too.

"Triela! Yay, you found it." Dinah grinned, humming along with Dido under breath. "What kind of music are you into?" She'd figured they'd ease into fashion sometime later, and shop for something less personal on their first money-spending excursion.

"Beethoven." Which may have been predictable. "Mozart. Hayden. There's a word for that type of music, right?"

Re: Talk to Alice

"Yup. Classical." Dinah blinked a little at that. "Do you like it just to listen to, or do you play an instrument? That's not a really typical taste. Not that there's anything wrong with it," she added quickly. "I'm just kind of surprised."

"I don't play anything. My cello case isn't for holding a cello. Though 'Etta back home plays the violin for real. She's pretty good."

She shook her head. "It's..." Triela thought about it for a moment. "It makes me feel, I guess. It's very emotional."

"Well, there should be a ton of recordings here. And maybe you can branch out a bit, into modern classical, or classical movie soundtracks," Dinah said, picking up a CD of The Donnas, "Ooooor, something else." She grinned. "Do you get much of a chance to listen to stuff at home?"

[identity profile] sorella-vecchia.livejournal.com 2009-02-05 12:54 am (UTC)(link)
"Not often, really. Claes tends to prefer things quiet, and she's home almost all the time so there aren't a lot of chances to be alone and listen."

"Then it's time to indulge! You can rip these to your computer and then download it to an iPod later after all. Unless you already do that?" Dinah went looking for something else, and found Enigma Beats (http://www.soundclick.com/genres/charts.cfm?genre=Classical). "Hmm. Maybe you could listen to this in one of the booths?"

Re: Talk to Alice

[identity profile] sorella-vecchia.livejournal.com 2009-02-05 01:28 am (UTC)(link)
"I don't have an iPod," Triela snorted. "I never really saw the need."

And she'd never played with one.

"How does that work?" she eyed the booth curiously.

Re: Talk to Alice

[identity profile] blondecanary.livejournal.com 2009-02-05 01:32 am (UTC)(link)
"Seriously?" Dinah blinked, then shrugged, going over to the booth and flipping on a few switches "Headphones, yay. CD player, here. Ooo, better turn that volume down." She put the disc in, showing it to Triela first, then handed her the headphones, hitting the Play button. "And I shut the door, and you're all set!"

Which Dinah did, after stepping outside.

Triela settled the headphones onto her ears gingerly and ilstened.

And listened.

And listened.

At some point Dinah was probably going to realize that Triela had taken the 'listen to this' thing literally. She was apparently going to listen to the entire album unless she were interrupted.

Dinah grinned, and went back to browsing for new music, humming along with the store's soundtrack, and trying to decide between Da Vinci's Notebook and Jonathan Coulton.

Under her breath, she sang, "All we want to do is eat your brains / We’re not unreasonable; I mean, no one’s gonna eat your eyes...."

[identity profile] sorella-vecchia.livejournal.com 2009-02-05 04:22 am (UTC)(link)
It was just over an hour later when Triela made her way out of the booth. She was turning the CD case over in her hands and examining it thoughtfully.

She was distracted enough that she didn't immediately look around to see if Dinah had stayed.

Re: Talk to Alice

[identity profile] blondecanary.livejournal.com 2009-02-05 04:23 am (UTC)(link)
Dinah looked up from her own stack of music - Alannis, Coulton, The Donnas, and she thought maybe some old-school U2 - to grin at Triela. "So. Worth coming here for?"

Re: Talk to Alice

[identity profile] sorella-vecchia.livejournal.com 2009-02-05 04:24 am (UTC)(link)
The question was considered in serious silence before Triela nodded.

"Yes."

Then: "Thank you."

Re: Talk to Alice

[identity profile] blondecanary.livejournal.com 2009-02-05 04:28 am (UTC)(link)
"You're welcome." Dinah smiled a little, not quite sure what to read into that, then decided to just be glad Triela enjoyed it. "Let's go pay for 'em, and head back."

Re: Talk to Alice

[identity profile] sorella-vecchia.livejournal.com 2009-02-05 04:29 am (UTC)(link)
Another nod. This one was accompanied by a grin.

Today, Triela thought, was not such a bad day at all.

Re: Talk to Alice

[identity profile] blondecanary.livejournal.com 2009-02-05 05:01 am (UTC)(link)
"Hi!" Dinah grinned at her as she came back from pushing Triela into a booth. "Um, something good to dance to? Alone in your room? Or, maybe on the roof, that'll get other people dancing? Even if you suck at it?"

Re: Talk to Alice

[identity profile] blondecanary.livejournal.com 2009-02-05 05:11 am (UTC)(link)
"Yes, exactly!" Dinah grinned back. "I've got beating-things-up music, and wandering-around-looking-at-stuff music, but I left most of my 'dance' music at home, and didn't realize it. But loud-yelling-dance music would be good too, I've had a couple of those moments the last week or so. Does this place ever calm down?"

Re: Talk to Alice

[identity profile] blondecanary.livejournal.com 2009-02-05 05:23 am (UTC)(link)
Dinah gave her a curious glance, noting the accent, but not seeing anything else that screamed 'lady' to her. "Your family wanted proper... ness?" She wrinkled her nose a bit, thinking of her foster parents. Not something she talked about, if she could help it. "My sisters are pretty easy-going, but they're older. If there's something really new, I'd love to hear it." She blinked, and said, "Oh, hey, forgot to say: I'm Dinah. Nice to meet you."

Re: Talk to Alice

[identity profile] blondecanary.livejournal.com 2009-02-05 05:46 am (UTC)(link)
"Wow, I am so glad you're here now, then," Dinah said, then realizing that might sound offensive, added, "If you are, I mean. Hmmm. Maybe something salsa-ish?"

Dinah kind of loved Alice's way of talking, and tried a very lame curtsey back, then laughed. "Oh, really? She's welcome to use it. Or time-share it? People keep trying to sing the lame song about 'coming around the mountain' when they meet me, so maybe she handles that better than I do?"

[identity profile] blondecanary.livejournal.com 2009-02-05 06:17 am (UTC)(link)
Repeating 'pinafores' to herself and boggling a little, thinking of those books about pioneer girls on the prairie, Dinah followed Alice over to the Dance section, picking out a copy of The Donnas. "Camille was Camille because of her swooniness. But I asked Chad, and he gave her a name as long as Prince Oscar Pedro's, so she'd be able to keep up with the big boys. She'll look around at either Camilla or Camille, though. She won't come, of course. But she'll look." Dinah nodded over to the sound booth. "We came in today to give Triela more variety of stuff to listen to. Maybe I should grab another Classical CD, if she gets bored with that one as well. Do you like classical at all?"

Re: Talk to Alice

[identity profile] blondecanary.livejournal.com 2009-02-05 06:36 am (UTC)(link)
"I can't get into it either," Dinah admitted. "Most other types, I can. Except I hate country. Most of it is so depressing." She brightened. "And Camille's full name is Duchess Camilla Haruhi Maria Evangelina-chan Junior. I kind of love it to death."

Re: Play with Dinah

[identity profile] blondecanary.livejournal.com 2009-02-05 12:16 am (UTC)(link)
"Hi kitttty," Dinah said, waving her fingers at the cat, and wondering if it would smell Camille on her clothing and avoid her.

Re: Play with Dinah

[identity profile] blondecanary.livejournal.com 2009-02-05 05:09 am (UTC)(link)
"Hiiii," Dinah repeated softly, and crouched down to stroke the cat's head, and rubbing behind the ears the way Camille liked. "You're very pretty. And you get a whole store to yourself, you lucky thing. My cat would be so jealous."

Re: Play with Dinah

[identity profile] blondecanary.livejournal.com 2009-02-05 05:20 am (UTC)(link)
"Maybe I can bring in my kitten sometime, if your girl is okay with it, so she can play with someone who doesn't try to glom her like Galliano does. Prince Oscar Pedro's much more gentle, but he is a grown-up," Dinah continued, her voice going in a sing-song the way it did with Camille. More petting along the cat's spine, all the way to her tail.

Re: Play with Dinah

[identity profile] blondecanary.livejournal.com 2009-02-05 05:48 am (UTC)(link)
Dinah-the-girl scritched Dinah-the-cat, and giggled at the same move Camille sometimes made. "He always looks so cold. Prince Oscar Pedro, I mean. But yeah, maybe I will bring in my little drama queen. She'd like the space, and she keeps trying to escape to the outdoors when I'm not watching. This is big enough to give her room to roam." She stroked Dinah's head, and smiled. "Have you had her all her life?"

Re: Play with Dinah

[identity profile] blondecanary.livejournal.com 2009-02-05 06:03 am (UTC)(link)
"I'm glad." Dinah smiled at Alice, and scritched under Dinah-cat's chin. "Cat's are just... yeah. Camille picked me, I swear she did, the day I got her at the pet store. Showed off for me, and demanded I play with her." She grinned a little. "And yeah, she is a trouble-maker, she'll be naughty and then roll over and mew pathetically so I can't scold her like I should."

Re: Play with Dinah

[identity profile] blondecanary.livejournal.com 2009-02-05 06:37 am (UTC)(link)
"Exactly!" Dinah gave Dinah's head one last pet, and got to her feet with a sigh. "We'll probably come back later, for more music. And I'll bring Camille with me then?"
