The Perk, Wednesday morning

Sitting by a table with a large cup of tea and an apple cake, Simon was skimming though a magazine he had found. It contained articles on the latest models of computers, and was excessively boring. Finally he pushed it aside, stared out the window and sipped his tea. Some days he really missed Serenity, and this was one of them. Tea and cake at the Perk was the best remedy, he had found, as the quality of food and drink tended to be lacking on the ship a lot of the time.

After leadership class, Inara felt the need for a cup of tea she hadn't brewed and some fresh air. Both desires working together brought her to The Perk. She smiled a polite greeting at Simon, then went to place her order.

Simon smiled back, pleased to see a familiar face, even if this particular version was not as familiar as the Inara he knew. He gestured for her to take a seat at his table should she want to.

Inara accepted her tea with thanks and went to sit down across from Simon, remembering him vaguely from Parents' Weekends. "You're River's brother, correct?"

"Yes," he said, "I am." He smiled a little. "Although she's... gone now."

"Do you still hear from her?" Inara sipped at her cup.

"Mornin' Doc." Tully said, waving to Simon. "How was your weekend?"

"Good morning," Simon replied. "It was... quiet, and yours?"

"Well, let me put it this way, just when I thought I knew how weird this place was..."

"I..." How to explain it? "Spent the weekend as someone else. I went to bed on Friday, Tully Mars, Lighthouse Keeper, and woke up on Saturday, Louis Tully, New York Lawyer."
