Caritas - Wednesday evening [Open]

Just because Penelope was on a boat somewhere didn't mean Caritas wouldn't be open tonight.

Granted, with the size of the town this week, opening Caritas basically meant gathering Tino and the band around the bar and playing UNO.

Which is what Jolee was doing tonight.

Where drinks will get to you once Tino is skipped. REVERSE! oh, look at that, he has some extra time now.

Mina raised an eyebrow when she saw the gathering at the bar.

"Not expecting patrons, tonight?" she asked.

"Not particularly," Jolee said, putting down a green 2. "And if I'm going to be here on a day I usually have off, I might as well have some fun with it."

"I don't believe I'm familiar with these cards," Mina said. "They look nothing like the cards of my time."

"They're not exactly Pazaak cards, either. Then again, we're not playing Pazaak, so those wouldn't be useful anyway," Jolee said. "What can I get for you?"

"A gin and tonic, please," Mina said. "I wouldn't like to tear you from your game for too long."

"You don't have to worry about that," Jolee said. He put down a green skip. "Congratulations, Tino, you have a free moment. Get Mrs Harker her drink."

Mina chuckled. "Indeed, I should have known," she said. "I take it you won't have time this evening to regale me with stories of your travels."

"That depends on how quickly I can win," Jolee said. And then the bass player dropped a draw two on him. "But it might not be anytime soon."

"Take your time, sir," Mina said. "I know far better than to try and pull a man from his precious card game."

"Oh, there's nothing precious about this game," Jolee said. "I just don't want to lose. If I do, they get bonus pay tonight."

"I see," Mina said. "The zombies are paid?" She sipped from her drink.

"In a sense. I prefer to let Tino handle the specifics there," Jolee said.

"Of course," Mina said. "I suppose I would be better off in ignorance, there."

Get away from the game. WILD! YELLOW!

Turn the TV up so you can't hear Jolee dropping a WILD DRAW FOUR GREEN!

... Blank? Why do they put four blank cards in the UNO deck?

So you can decide what you're putting down! Or, as I'd use them, to inflict a "draw an unholy number of cards" on someone.

When I opened up a fresh pack of UNO cards a couple weeks ago, we ended up using them as wild cards that then got thrown off to the side. If I had crayons, though, I would have gone all out making up new things for them to be.

... I like the way you think.

I'm really hoping I didn't throw the blank cards out or anything now... That would be fun to spring on my unwitting friends.

If I played UNO any other way than the game that came with my X-Box 360, I'd so buy a new deck and send you the blank ones.
