The Park [Monday morning]

It had taken Jack a few days to negotiate his release from the insane rodents who'd captured him. They didn't recognize "parley" as a concept...okay, that wasn't true. It'd taken a few days for Jack to figure out how to undo the knots they'd tied him up with (he'd been a little distracted with how squirrels learned to tie knots at all). And now he was sneaking his way stealthily around town.

Through a park.

That had trees.

Where squirrels lived.

This plan could've been better.

"Hide you from what, sir?" Mina said. She was startled, which put her on her guard. However, the man's tone did seem to imply distress as opposed to evil intent.

"The insane furry creatures who live here!" Jack replied. "They kidnapped me!"

"I have encountered no such beasts," Mina said. "Some men in desperate need of a bath, perhaps, but no creatures of fur and psychosis."

Jack fell squarely into the first category. "They exist, good madam, let me assure you," he said, nodding.

And then nodding some more. Nodding was fun!

Mina was actually rather pleased someone called her 'good madam'. "Sir, I assure you, that if they do, you are in no danger from them. Creatures of this island seem benevolent, on the whole."

"They kept me locked up for days!" Jack replied. "Without rum!"

That was the important bit.

Ah, a drunkard. That explained it entirely.

"How large were these creatures?" Mina asked.

Jack put his hands together to approximate squirrel size, then immediately realized how unimpressive it would be to be captured by something that little.

The squirrels were now at least four feet tall, going by his measuring. "Huge," he said, nodding.

"Then I suggest you find refuge in a building," Mina said. "Preferably a place with a hot bath." She gave him a pleasant enough smile.

"A bath's a waste of perfectly good drinking water," Jack said. "Might you direct me towards suitable accommodations?"

Mina pointed in the direction of the hotel. "Temporary lodgings lie that way," she said. Then she pointed towards one of the apartment buildings. "More long term residence can be obtained there. I... do believe you may be in for a culture shock."

"Am I?" Jack replied. "Where am I?"

"The island is called Fandom," Mina said. "Judging by your attire, you appear to be a privateer, from a time long since past."

"Just how long since?" Jack asked, beginning to look a little concerned.

"I would assume at least a hundred years," Mina said. "If not longer."

"A hundred years?" Jack repeated, blinking. "So...anyone I owed money to would be dead, aye?"

"Assuming they are not undead, sir," Mina said with a cheeky smile.

"Good point," Jack replied, tapping his finger against his lips. "I'm fairly sure I didn't owe the monkey any money..."

"If not, I'm sure a few bananas would sort out the problem," Mina said.

"You'd think so, but he's a mean little bastard," Jack confided.

"That's what you get when you associate with primates," Mina said. "Perhaps you should associate with more... evolved types."

"I try, but they all tend to be pirates," Jack said, shaking his head so very sadly.

"You'll find yourself wanting for new associates, then," Mina said. "You are the first pirate I've had cross my path."

"Really?" Jack sounded pleased. "I'm Captain Jack Sparrow. It's a pleasure to make your acquaintance."
