Groovy Tunes, Inside the Store This Time, Wednesday

To say Alice had had an eventful week would be something of an understatement; harpies, childhood, and more personal matters, and yet here she was arriving at work once more. Time always moved forward, oblivious to the events and people it swept along in its tide. Unless, of course, one was in Looking-Glass Land.

Alice was inside the store today, and she would be quite happy to assist you in locating a music disc that was not covered in harpy guts. (Those had been thrown out.)

(Gonna be AFK most of the day, so no OCD today. Will get pings when I am back!)

Dinah was here to settle up her account. Sigh. Also to look for music that she thought Blysse might like; they still had to get to the library for books-on-CD at some point. But showing her how the CD players in the Common Rooms worked was a start.

"Hey, Alice," Dinah said, heading over to the music section. "Did you and Chad ever figure out how much I owed the store for the CD's I smashed?"

"Hunh! Maybe he was glad to get rid of some of those, but I was sure I'd have to pay to replace all the polka CDs," Dinah wondered, then shook her head. "I'm so asking him about that." She grinned, and drifted through the aisles. "Any recommendations for something good to dance to?"

(awesome! hee)

"I use it to work out to," Dinah agreed, grabbing a couple new discs, then looking around. "Is kitty Dinah home today? And did they ever get the guts and stuff off the roof?"

"That's so weeeird," Dinah said, marveling. "Cool, but weird." She pulled out a CD of Guster, and another of The Veronicas, and considered, wandering around. "Hmmmm. I need, I need... tribal. Yeah. Blysse would like that. And mayyybe... Philip Glass. For Triela." She grinned. "I should just set them up with internet downloads and let them go crazy, but exchanging stuff I like is fun too."

"Tribal's a type, not a group, although I guess it could be a group too," Dinah said, holding up a CD of Kashtin (http://www.amazon.com/Akua-Tuta-Kashtin/dp/B000008O0U). "More drums. More pipes. And I have to agree on the rock vs. country debate. I grew up with way too much country, I'm sick of it." She picked up a Phillip Glass CD (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=il4VDf-ugPI) too. "Triela's more into classical. Structure, I guess. Do you like rock better than the music of where you're from?" She paused, realizing, "You know, I don't know where or when that is."

Dinah blinked, floored. "Wow. That's-- okay, not as far back and Merlin and all, but still. A lot further than Cal." She shook her head, studying Alice with an edge of impressed. "I wouldn't have guessed that. I don't know if it's the clothes, or just the way you are, but Victorian would not have been on my list of origin times." She grinned a little. "One hundred and thirty-six years. Yeeesh."

Dinah tried to imagine Alice in a pinafore, and just managed it. Barely. Probably solely because she still had a proper British accent. "You probably would've ended up a suffragette or one of those lady explorers or something, if you'd stayed back there, instead of going to war and then ending up here. Still not proper." She grinned. "Now I'm wondering how I would end up, in 2145. Do you ever want to go back to England, if not 1873?"

Alice's sudden veer into metaphor had Dinah tilting her head a moment to follow that, then nodding. "You've got Dean to fall back on, if you need it. But that's not the same as a place you belong." She looked thoughtful, fingers trailing among the New Age music, thinking about how she hadn't belonged anywhere before New Gotham. "I had a dream, and I followed it somewhere. Turned out okay."
