Fight Club, Atlas Gym, Sunday Evening

"Well, most of you are looking refreshingly back to your original shapes," Ghanima said crisply. "I hope many of you enjoyed your second or third childhoods, and many congratulations on not managing to kill each other with the nerf toys last week."

"Being back to normal means no ball pit this week," Tyler added. "I know. I'm crushed, too. Welcome to Fight Club. Rules are posted over there, and if this is your first week sign in and let us know what your level is."

"Like last time, we'll both be around keeping an eye on things, and I'll be over by the beginner mats for the first bit," Ghanima stated. "Now, you and you. You two. And you two too." She turned to Tyler, smiling brightly. "Care to pick the last victims?"

"You know the way to my heart, Ghanima," Tyler joshed, and looked over the group for a long moment. "You, hiding in the back, and you by the padding. And both of you. And that makes five sets. Go forth and punch."

"Good, then you'll have an easier time with the rest of it," Ghanima replied. "When you hit someone, what do you do? Can you show me?"

She didn't get the impression that Liir hit people very often, but she wasn't going to assume it had never happened.

Turtle, fists curled, followed the kick into the air with a slight stomp. Part of her expected Miss Atreides to dodge, true, but that didn't mean part of Turtle wasn't still hoping...

A missed kick was always a disappointment, no matter how much you expected it, and she let that moment happen before giving a firm nod. "That's what I'm hoping for. Kicking will only get you so far."

Alice turned her body so that the hit barely grazed her ribs, but that meant she didn't see the hand aimed at her throat until too late to deflect it.

She stumbled backwards, coughing, but her arms up defensively, in case there was to be a further onslaught. Before she had recovered her breath, she lunged forward, one fist aiming a punch towards the girl's midsection, and the other, reaching to get a handful of that pink hair. If she could get any of it, she was going to yank.

She hoped that she was right, and that Anemone was hoping to make this as bare-knuckled as possible, as well.

Rikku giggled. "Don't tell me you're gonna fight," she said, reaching up to scritch under Reno's chin. "You'd do some damage, with those big feet of yours."

She bowed, straight back and hands folded in front of her.

"Thank you."

The fist to her gut didn't phase her much beyond an annoyed grunt, but Anemone yelped in protest as Alice grabbed a handful of hair and pulled. That hurt!

This time it was Anemone's turn to kick, and she tried to stomp on Alice's knee as best she could to force the other girl to let go, clawing at her arms with both hands.

Oh, Reno knew. He had totally had his ass kicked by a chocobo before, after all. But he was hoping for a challenge, here!

... Which he was currently meeting by way of chin-scritches. No fair! Cheating! Cheating!

"Wark!"

Cheeeating!

"I was shown to do it like so," he said, moving almost like a video in slow motion as he showed her a punch powered mostly by the turn of a hip.

"Leadcotton always said to power them with your legs, which didn't make sense at the time but I think I've figured out some of that recently. Though of course, that could be wrong. But that's who taught me."

He darted forward again, fast, as he did when practicing gooseball, and this time threw a tight punch at the shoulder joint.

Oh Nameless Name, let her be fast enough to stop me. And I hope she doesn't hate me.

"Okay, okay, I'll stop," she laughed. "You knooooooooow. It's a shame nobody wants to throw down with the big, black chocho-bird, isn't it?"

Ha! Got him to move! Finally!

Dinah whipped her arm up to block the punch, shoving it upward with a grin and letting it slide down the outside of her arm, then powering her other arm forward in a punch to his sternum.

Alice's knee crumpled, but she held firm on the strands of shocking-pink hair, trying to drag the other girl to the ground along with her. Now seemed like an opportune time for a punch to the teeth, so she was going to try one.

The other girl's fingernails were drawing blood, and Alice felt alive.

That? That earned a headbobble that said quite plainly that it was a huge shame.

Rikku was going to resist the obvious joke. (Far too obvious. But she thought about it.)

She stretched her arms over her head. "Aaaaaand it's a shame that you'd go too easy on me for us to have any fun sparring."

His stance let him turn easily enough, but her shove overextended him somewhat and so he didn't have as much of his weight to throw as he would have usually. The result had her knuckles running across his chest in line that very well might leave a mark.

He ignored it and used what power he did have, from the turn and from his stance, to throw his elbow at the side of her head.

... He would?

"Kweh?"

... Wait. Of course he would. Yeah. Totally. Maybe?

Reno was eyeing her warily. Did she want to?

Dinah saw it coming; not fast enough to duck out of the way, but fast enough to roll with it, and while he'd thrown a good punch, it wasn't as hard as Mr. Durden's by a large measure. So it wasn't that hard to back off, blink, shake off the pain, and return to ready, still grinning.

Much better!

And a one-two combination aimed for his stomach again, if he didn't back off too.

"Good," Ghanima replied, watching him critically. "You've got the basic of the hit down, it seems, so that will just require practice."

"We'll start with the elbow strike, then. An opponant will often expect a punch, so this gives you some freedom for unconventional situations," she said, falling into a stance beside him.

"The elbow and forearm make for great weapons. The key is to twist at the waist and throw all the weight and power of both your upper and lower body into the hit." Ghanima demonstrated it slowly for him, then sped it up. "When used correctly, the elbow can cause a lot of pain in the ribs, sternum, diaphragm, throat, groin... high damage on them, and low-impact for you."

He backed off.

He was reeling, somewhat, just from...

He'd connected. He'd connected!

Oh goodness, he was going to be ill.

Later! He'd be ill later. Right now, he'd started a fight and he should give Dinah a fight. He'd be ill later.

He settled into his stance, steadied his breathing, and looked to Dinah to make sure she was all right.

Oh, this one was a fighter! Ghanima hid her grin as she nodded.

"We'll give you a mean hook-punch, then," she responded. "Take a proper boxing stance: put both legs parallel to your shoulders, then bring your most dominant foot half a step back and slightly bend your knees. Both hands lined up a bit outside of your eyes and a few inches away from your face." Ghanima demonstrated, watching to see if Turtle would mimic her.

"Then you twist your body towards your dominant side, rotating your front foot as if you are squishing a bug. The spin will put more power behind the punch. Just be careful not to swing too far or too wildly, or you open yourself up to an attack to the face."

The ground? Oh hell no.

Anemone laughed gleefully as she snapped one elbow forward to try and catch Alice in the sternum, even as she brought her knee up for a potentially painful strike. Were Alice a boy, it might even end the match.

Anemone did not believe in playing 'nice'. She just wanted the other girl to Let Go so she could kick her some more.

Turtle was mimicking Miss Atreides with the utmost attention, riveted as she tried to copy ever precise detail, no matter how awkward or foolish or nervous she felt. Her lower lip caught between her teeth again as she followed. Twist your body toward dominant side, rotate front foot like squishing a buuuuuuuug (or Doug Hoo's faaaace!). She executed it slowly, clearly practicing the feel of it before putting more oomph into it.

"Like this?"

Rikku was still flashing the innocent look when she hopped forward, aiming a body blow at the chocho-torso.

She'd never fought a chocobo before. This should be interesting.
