The Park - Saturday Afternoon

It was a little cool and dreary, but the rain seemed to be staying at bay, so Joan and Jess headed to the park for their lunch.

Joan had packed what she hoped was a decent picnic.

Jess was glad when he saw that it wasn't pouring outside - after his run-in with Chuck, even a small example of things going well went a long way. Of course, if he could keep his black eye from being too distracting, that would be even better.

"I'm good with whatever spot you think looks good," he offered.

"How about right here?" Joan asked, spreading out the blanket she was carrying. "So... are you going to tell me what happened to your eye? I'm somehow thinking it wasn't Hurley being upset that you outbid him for my company."

"Are you sure about that? We could have had quite the fight for the privilege of coming to this picnic," Jess said with a smile.

"Uh huh, somehow I'm thinking my chicken salad sandwiches aren't worth all that," Joan said, opening the picnic basket and starting to unpack it.

"I got into a little fight with a guy last night," Jess said, shrugging as he sat down. "It's not a big deal. It doesn't even hurt that much."

Joan set out an array of sandwiches, cut up veggies and fruit, chips and brownies. There were also bottles of iced tea and water.

"Just keep away from Chuck Bass. He's a kind of trouble you probably don't want," Jess said. He couldn't help but smile as he looked over the spread. "You certainly know how to pack a picnic."

"Really? He was in my sex ed class last semester," Joan said. "He didn't seem that bad."

Then again, he did make everyone kiss him to pass their finals. Hm. She shrugged it off and smiled at his compliment. "My mom was always of the belief that it was better to have too much food than not enough."
