Caritas - Sunday evening [Open]

Jolee stared at the band from his spot behind the bar tonight. According to Tino, they were playing "Just a Friend" over and over. Tino also suggested that they weren't doing it worse than the original version.

Jolee's ears hurt.

Mina sat down at the bar, pleasant in disposition. She smiled at Jolee.

"I think I will have a vodka cranberry, if you could get Tino's attention, sir," she said.

"I'll see what I can do," Jolee said. "Tino! The lady's drink, please?"

Tino got to it, although he looked like he was being driven slightly mad by the music.

"How are you tonight?" Jolee asked Mina while Tino got to work.

"I cannot complain," Mina said. "Life on the island has been pleasantly calm these past days."

"That's something of a rarity, isn't it?" Jolee asked. "Still, we do have the regular kind of distractions to keep us occupied until the next disaster."

"Like the music this evening?" Mina said, finally taking notice.

"I think that would qualify," Jolee said as Tino brought the drink over.

Tino then grabbed headphones from under the bar to help cancel out the noise.

"I hope you have been well?" Mina said, doing her best to ignore the noise.

"As well as I can be under the circumstances," Jolee said. "Some days, retirement's not all it's cracked up to be."

"That sounds rather distressful," Mina said. "Should I worry?"

"Only for my ears," Jolee said. "I'm still talking about the music."

Mina felt herself blush a little. "My mistake," she said. "I seem to assume the worst, these days."

"That's okay. Misleading people in conversation is one of the places I can find the most enjoyment at my age," Jolee said. "It's nothing to be ashamed of."

Mina smiled. "I hope I prove enough of an amusement for you, Jolee," she said.

"I assure you that you do," Jolee said.

"I am glad to hear," Mina said. "I would hate for some unsuspecting soul to to be victim as well."

She chuckled.

"I wouldn't mind it. It's good to get new people used to the elderly. That way our legend spreads," Jolee said.

That song's in a commercial that ABC kept airing during basketball tonight. IT IS STUCK IN MY HEAD.
