Groovy Tunes: Thursday [4-30-09]

Peyton wasn't sure if her dad was getting in today or tomorrow. It all depended on whether he got back early from his latest dredging operation or not. She supposed it didn't really matter that much since she had to work today, but still, it had been ages since she'd seen him!

So she was here, much more upbeat music playing, keeping herself busy and finding herself more excited nd nervous about graduation than she imagined she'd be.

Chad didn't have an visitors coming, so he had plenty of time today to head on down to the store to see and catch up with Peyton a little.

"Hey; how's it going?"

"Chad, hey, I'm good, how about you?" Peyton responded with a smile.

"Good," Chad nodded. "Just sort of...putting things together. You know, before stuff. What're your plans for the summer?"

Peyton shrugged. "Well, it's not like I'm planning on college or anything. So I figure I'll hang around here for the summer and then... I don't know, see where life takes me."

"Cool," said Chad. "Good. Er, not good that you're not going to college, but good that you'll be around. You can help keep an eye on the store still."

Peyton nodded. "Yeah, I hoped I'd be able to keep my job while I was here. And what about you? You staying the summer?"

Chad shook his head. "Nope," he said. "College. Modeling. I'm taking off for New York next week. But, hey, can I ask a favour?"

"Hey, yeah, of course," Peyton said. "What do you need?"

"Well, I don't think," said Chad, "that I'll be able to take Prince Oscar Pedro with me. But, I mean, this place has been his home almost all his whole life and I don't want to take him away from that, either. So I was thinking...maybe...he could just stay at the store. He'll be real good, and you guys'll just have to feed him and take care of a litter box in the backroom or something, but....you know...he'll like it better here."

Peyton looked shocked. "Chad. Wow. He's going to miss you terribly. But yeah, if you want him to stay here, of course we can feed him and whatever. You sure you don't want to leave him with a person, though?"

Chad nodded. "We thought about it a lot," he said. "Prince Oscar Pedro's a pretty solitary cat; he'll like the quiet when no one's around."

Chad leaned forward a little. "Especially after dealing with Teddy's cat," he whispered.

"I'll just be temporary, too, I think."

Peyton couldn't help grinning a little. "Well, then I say let him stay here. Why not, right?"

"And I'll visit a lot," Chad added. "And check in a lot, too."

"Well, I know we'd all like that," Peyton said with a smile.

"Cool," Chad nodded.

"So, I left you a CD, too. It's under the counter and it has your name on it. It's a lot of rock, some classic stuff, some hard stuff. Songs I figured you'd like."

"Seriously?" Peyton grinned at him. "Thanks, Chad, that's sweet of you!"

"Hey, no problem. You've been a good employee, and I'll miss you, and I wantedt o make something for all of you that you'd appreciate.

"Yeah, well, couldn't have picked anything I'd like more," Peyton admitted. "And I'm gonna miss you too."

"Well," Chad said. "I'll let you get back to work. Good luck Saturday if I don't see you before then."
