Graduation Brunch: The Park, Sunday, mid-morning to mid-afternoon

A banner, the letters wrapped with fresh spring flowers, hung from the trees, spelling out CONGRATULATIONS, CLASS OF 2009! No missing letters or anything.

Spread out across the park were plenty of tables and chairs, some under the shade of picnic shelters, some out on the grass in the sunshine. For those who felt like getting back to nature, there were even red and white checked blankets spread out in a few areas for old-fashioned picnic-y goodness. Lack of ants not guaranteed.

The long table that ran along next to the picnic shelters was laden with a vast moddable array of traditional brillig-y food, including fruit, veggie snacks, breakfast pastries, sandwiches for the especially hungry or those who arrived more toward the unch end of brunch, and a wide variety of J,GoB-catered desserts. Drinks included coffee, tea, juices and soft drinks, and while there were plates provided, there were also wee picnic-basket-shaped trays for carrying things back to your seat, wherever that might be.

A space had been cleared for dancing, if people cared to do more than just listen to the light music being played through the speakers, and there was also an area set aside for outdoor games of croquet, horseshoes, or frisbee.

Everybody's welcome. Come celebrate with the Class of '09!

[OOC: Wait for the OCD. Don't make Eliza Doolittle have to cut a bitch. OPEN! And no one had to get cut! It's a good day!]

River made no movement forward. "Kerrigan and I had a war to fight," she said. "Not finished yet. But I get to dance." And not in the way you danced to music.

Parker got that. "Ahh. Okay, that explains it." She sighed, giving River an anxious look. "You're safe? Kerrigan's got your back? And are you guys winning?"

"Things are going according to plan." She paused. "Has things changed? In Fandom?"

"Not by much, it sounds like. I don't hear as much except from Ronan these days-- your brain buddy is around her somewhere, I think," Parker said, giving a slow, feline smile. "We had fun last night, he was pretty exhausted." She grinned. "But yeah, otherwise, same old, same old. Someone even brought the freaking zombies back last month, how retro is that?"

"Zombies?" Even the zerg found that interesting, but more in the way of entertainment. "I haven't seen Ronan." She hadn't been looking either.

"I'll tell him you're here when I see him," Parker said, giving River a puzzled look. Is something wrong? she asked in her mind, then said, "We should go dance, they've got a floor for it."

River stared down at her feet. "Been dancing so much I can't tell once step from another. Can't have an accident." She was deliberately ignoring the question.

Okay, that? Was not good. Keeping her voice low, Parker said, "River? Do you need help? I'm right here. Just ask."

With a sudden movement, River looked up. "I'm changed, Parker. I don't need help. I have everything I need."

"Nobody has everything," Parker said, still worried. She took a step back, not afraid, not exactly; disturbed. "Changed how? Like before? Like what was done to you, to make you dangerous?"

She smiled. "Now I'm like an angel, but today I'm in disguise." An angel with large bony wings sharp as any knife.

"River." Parker sighed, studying her, knowing something was off, not knowing what it was, not able to read her through the usual poetry and deflection. "If you get sick of it... come find me. Otherwise." She shrugged helplessly. "I just hope you survive."

"I will always remember you, Parker." She tilted her head.

"Please don't make that mean good-bye," Parker said, feeling helpless.

"Not more than the last one was," River said. "Just an observation."
