fandomtownies | Graduation Brunch: The Park, Sunday, mid-morning to mid-afternoon

A banner, the letters wrapped with fresh spring flowers, hung from the trees, spelling out CONGRATULATIONS, CLASS OF 2009! No missing letters or anything.

Spread out across the park were plenty of tables and chairs, some under the shade of picnic shelters, some out on the grass in the sunshine. For those who felt like getting back to nature, there were even red and white checked blankets spread out in a few areas for old-fashioned picnic-y goodness. Lack of ants not guaranteed.

The long table that ran along next to the picnic shelters was laden with a vast ~~moddable~~ array of traditional brillig-y food, including fruit, veggie snacks, breakfast pastries, sandwiches for the especially hungry or those who arrived more toward the unch end of brunch, and a wide variety of J,GoB-catered desserts. Drinks included coffee, tea, juices and soft drinks, and while there were plates provided, there were also wee picnic-basket-shaped trays for carrying things back to your seat, wherever that might be.

A space had been cleared for dancing, if people cared to do more than just listen to the light music being played through the speakers, and there was also an area set aside for outdoor games of croquet, horseshoes, or frisbee.

Everybody's welcome. Come celebrate with the Class of '09!

"Hey, sometimes I eat healthy!" If it tasted good, she didn't really care if it also had vitamins.

"I was only asking!" Really. Ignore the grin.

Francine tilted her head. "Do you want me to find some cake, so we can argue over it?"

"We could," Merlin agreed. "Though, I dare say we might need to find something new after that."

"You're getting bored with cake already?" Don't um, take 'cake' as a nervous euphemism for me there, or anything.

"Wouldn't you?" Merlin... so not getting it at all. "I mean, you might also like those brownies they said you made on the radio."

"Well, it's not either/or, you know." He was still talking about pastries and her, however, so Francine considered that a good sign and tucked her chronic insecurity away for another day. ""You can have brownies and cake."

"You'd get sick off all that sugar," Merlin said, wagging his finger at her.

"You know, you'd think so," Francine mused, "But we always seem to get really hungry for like, cookies and stuff when I make brownies for Chuck."

"That is odd. Perhaps next time you make them, I can try one."

NO. BAD.

SO BAD.

"You should! The spices Chuck likes are a little weird, but they seem to turn out really good." If she did say so herself. "And he totally owes you for the..." She made a face. "Romantic comedy."

"He does!" This could only end badly. "I could even help you make them!"

A beat.

"Or watch carefully from a distance."

"You can lick the spoon," Francine offered.

"Then lick the spoon I shall." He had yet to see the wonder of cake batter.

"I always thought that was the best part, before I could cook on my own," Francine said with a grin. "Actually, it might still be the best part. You may have to fight me for the spoon."

"We could share."

"Hmm. We'd need a really big spoon."

"Perhaps if we had two spoons..."

"Oh well, sure, be logical about it." She tossed a grape at him. As you do.

"Oi!" That only caused Merlin to toss a strawberry back at her.

"Careful," Francine warned him as she caught it. Sort of. Three fumbles and a bounce off the table still counts as catching. 5-second rule. "We don't want to get arrested. I bet there's police around somewhere."

Merlin looked around as if to make sure no local police had noticed. "You just want to get arrested," He said with a grin. "Next time you throw a grape at me, I'll be forced to tell."

"Why would I want to get arrested?"

Because handcuffs are kinky was sadly as far from her mind as, oh, particle physics.

"I don't know, why would you?"

...yes, they were kinky.

"I don't!" Francine shook her head. "I heard jail food is awful."
