fandomtownies | Graduation Brunch: The Park, Sunday, mid-morning to mid-afternoon

A banner, the letters wrapped with fresh spring flowers, hung from the trees, spelling out CONGRATULATIONS, CLASS OF 2009! No missing letters or anything.

Spread out across the park were plenty of tables and chairs, some under the shade of picnic shelters, some out on the grass in the sunshine. For those who felt like getting back to nature, there were even red and white checked blankets spread out in a few areas for old-fashioned picnic-y goodness. Lack of ants not guaranteed.

The long table that ran along next to the picnic shelters was laden with a vast ~~moddable~~ array of traditional brillig-y food, including fruit, veggie snacks, breakfast pastries, sandwiches for the especially hungry or those who arrived more toward the unch end of brunch, and a wide variety of J,GoB-catered desserts. Drinks included coffee, tea, juices and soft drinks, and while there were plates provided, there were also wee picnic-basket-shaped trays for carrying things back to your seat, wherever that might be.

A space had been cleared for dancing, if people cared to do more than just listen to the light music being played through the speakers, and there was also an area set aside for outdoor games of croquet, horseshoes, or frisbee.

Everybody's welcome. Come celebrate with the Class of '09!

"Well, Kawalsky did suggest that I could move to Tortall," Bridge says.

Xander eyes him. "Narnia has the same tech level but with talking animals," he points out. ~~This time without boobs.~~

"Nobody asked me to move *there*," he points out. "Plus Narnia doesn't have hamburgers."

"...Tortall has hamburgers?"

"Kawalsky managed to convince someone in the palace kitchens to make them," Bridge says with a nod. "He figures it's only a matter of time until the guy opens a burger place of his own."

Xander pops something small and cheesy into his mouth. "'Kay, fair enough, but I could make hamburgers if we moved to Narnia."

"You could," Bridge concedes. "But I don't actually want to live in Narnia. Or Tortall." He tilts his head and looks at Xander thoughtfully. "Do *you* want to?"

Though he wouldn't mind living nearer to Willow, or Alanna for that matter, Xander shakes his head. "Not really. Not in particular, anyhow. I'm good with wherever you want to be."

"Okay," Bridge says with a nod. "I mean, I know my reality's not the best place ever, but," he shrugs. Truthfully he can't imagine living- or wanting to live- anywhere else, even without the whole "duty to SPD" bit. Well, maybe Fandom. But that isn't an option.

"It's got you in it," Xander says with a shrug, but not the kind of shrug that says this isn't important. The kind of shrug that says this goes without saying. "So it's home. We are really short on redheads, though. We need to recruit some."

"We could take out an ad in the paper or something?" Bridge says. "We're getting a Jen, though. That's pretty cool, regardless of hair colour."

"She's pink; that sort of counts." Sort of being the operative phrase, because Syd is also pink, and is very possibly the blondest blonde Xander has met in his life. And he grew up with Harmony Kendall.

"And except for that is pretty much Syd's polar opposite," Bridge says with a grin. "*That*'ll be interesting to see."

"Hunh. Do we have an opening for, like, a maroon ranger, maybe?"

"I'd like to see you try and convince *either* of them to wear maroon. Actually, no I wouldn't, because they would *kill you* and I strongly object to that."

"Hey, maroon's a good color. It's dark red. It's not like... mauve, or something." Pause. "There are ways in which that could have sounded more gay. I'm sure of it. Somewhere."

"It's not a matter of good colours or bad colours," Bridge says, absently peeling the crust off a turkey sandwich. "It's- look, you know I own stuff in colours other than green, right?"

"I vaguely recall some purple socks," Xander replies dryly.

"I have blue shirts!" Bridge says defensively. "I just haven't, you know, *worn* them since we left Fandom."

"I noticed," Xander says, nodding.

"It's a Ranger thing," Bridge says, in case Xander hadn't noticed after being around a whole *team's* worth of Rangers for almost a year now. "It's not like there's a *rule* saying I can't wear something else- well, okay, there is a rule about uniforms while on duty but that's not what I mean- but I wouldn't. It just... nothing else *feels* right, anymore," he shrugs.

"You think they genetically encoded the colors into you?" Xander asks with a laugh.

"No," Bridge says, shooting him a look. "I'm not saying it makes sense! I'm just saying it *is*."

Xander tosses a cheese puff at him. "If you think I married you for how much sense you make, boy do we have some talking to do."
