fandomtownies | Graduation Brunch: The Park, Sunday, mid-morning to mid-afternoon

A banner, the letters wrapped with fresh spring flowers, hung from the trees, spelling out CONGRATULATIONS, CLASS OF 2009! No missing letters or anything.

Spread out across the park were plenty of tables and chairs, some under the shade of picnic shelters, some out on the grass in the sunshine. For those who felt like getting back to nature, there were even red and white checked blankets spread out in a few areas for old-fashioned picnic-y goodness. Lack of ants not guaranteed.

The long table that ran along next to the picnic shelters was laden with a vast ~~moddable~~ array of traditional brillig-y food, including fruit, veggie snacks, breakfast pastries, sandwiches for the especially hungry or those who arrived more toward the unch end of brunch, and a wide variety of J,GoB-catered desserts. Drinks included coffee, tea, juices and soft drinks, and while there were plates provided, there were also wee picnic-basket-shaped trays for carrying things back to your seat, wherever that might be.

A space had been cleared for dancing, if people cared to do more than just listen to the light music being played through the speakers, and there was also an area set aside for outdoor games of croquet, horseshoes, or frisbee.

Everybody's welcome. Come celebrate with the Class of '09!

"I don't need to be jealous," Luke said. "I'm Luke Skywalker."

So modest, he was.

"Yeah, Luke Skywalker, nectar of the gremlins," Gavin said.

"I don't like you very much, you know," Luke lied.

"You bad liar," Gavin said and reached over to try and muss Luke's hair.

Luke let him because really, it couldn't get any sillier looking. "When do you head for home?"

"Sometime this week," he answered. "Gotta finish up some things and then off I go."

"You'll be careful?" Luke replied. "I know the kind of insanity we toss the Rogues towards."

"Hey, I'm always careful." Ignore a few bumps in the road. "I'll be careful, I promise."

"Real, non-Rogue careful," Luke said. "I've seen the scar you have."

"I promise," Gavin said again. "And if something happens, you have permission to hit me."

"In both galaxies?" Luke asked.

"As long as I can hit you if you do something dumb," Gavin said.

Luke grinned and held out his hand. "Deal."

Gavin went to shake Luke's hand before bypassing it and giving Luke a noogie.

"Ack!" Luke said, getting thoroughly noogied.

It was just so easy to get Luke when he wasn't expecting it that Gavin made sure to mess up Luke's hair but good.

"I'll get you back for this," Luke vowed.

"Of course you will," Gavin said, letting Luke go and laughing. "Of course you will!"

"Revenge isn't very Jedi, but for you'll I'm make an exception," Luke said, laughing and trying to fix his hair.

"Don't break a hip trying to get revenge," Gavin said. "The Jedi Order would be mad at me."

"If by the Order, you mean me, yep. And I'm not the old one here. Dad's a grandfather!"

"Yeah, but you're my friend so I can call you old," he pointed out. "So there."

"You've certainly learned how to make compelling arguments in your time here," Luke teased.

"Think I could use it to get myself a promotion?" he joked.

"Try it on Wedge and find out," Luke said.
