Turtle & Canary; Monday [ 05/11 ].

The employment numbers at Turtle & Canary had dropped significantly, but there were also new people around, and so Turtle was hoping that hiring in the empty spots wouldn't be too difficult. And she didn't even have class today, so she felt absolutely no reservations about coming into the store to man the counter and be prepared if anyone wanted to join the staff. She updated the good old hiring sign, adding a little extra glitter to freshen it up a little.

With that, she settled behind the counter and worked a little on some projections for the year.

Hope had spent her first few days in town just kind of exploring and making a list of the places that were hiring that she wouldn't mind working at. And now, she was on to the enquiring about jobs portion of the program.

"Hi," she said to the girl. "I'm looking for the owner."

Turtle gave the other girl a smile back. "You've found her. Well, one of them, anyway. I'm Turtle Wexler, and I co-own this store. How can I help you?"

Turtle seemed awfully... young to own a business. Hope shrugged off the wary for a moment and said, "I was hoping to talk to you about a job."

"Really?" asked Turtle, brightening a bit. "Excellent! We're hiring plenty of positions! I'll just need you to fill out one of these," she produced from somewhere behind the counter a sizable stack of papers, "and if you'd like to get right into it, decide on a day you'd like to work, and we can get your training in and get you going!"

Well, that'd been easier than she'd expected. Hope eyed the stack of papers with some trepidation. "Well, to make it easier on us, what days do you most need people?"

"Hmmmm," Turtle thought about it for a moment, "basically, any day besides Wednesday is open. But if I wanted to fill in anything more than the other, I'd say Friday and Saturday. I usually do Saturday myself, but sometimes there's so many school events that I have to miss out on them."

Maron had been out wandering, and had stopped, considering the files that had been mentioned, plus the store name, and had to come in.

"Turtle!" she said brightly. "Is this why there's files?"

Turtle laughed a little. "Hey, Maron. Yeah, this is pretty much why there's files. That, and my stock market ventures, but most of them are for the store. Welcome to Turtle & Canary!"

"Thank you!" she said, beaming. A store was a good reason to have files after all. "Have you been running it long? And how can something taste like a smell of a new kid, please?"

"It's been a few years now since Jane made me partner," Turtle said with a proud nod. "But, about the Squishy flavor? I have no idea. Sometimes, I think Bob just picks whatever random suggestion of flavor she feels like. You're welcome to try it; I'll give you a free one, since you're my roommate."

"Who is Bob?" she asked. "Isn't that usually a boys name? Or, I mean, I guess it could be a girl's name too, but I've never heard of that." Which... well, Japan. "Can I please? You're so nice! I bet you'll have no trouble hiring people!"

"Bob's the SquishyBot there," Turtle explained. "I wanted to name her Alice, but I named her Bob because that's what Bart wanted to name her. Bob, hook my new roommate up with a Squishy, please."

Bob, well programmed to please, did just that, producing one of the frozen drinks for Maron.

"And I hope not; there's a lot of spots to fill."

He had run out of ink and notebooks, so Leto stopped by Turtle & Canary to buy some more before going to the cabins.

"Good morning, Turtle," he said, giving her a warm smile as he approached the counter.

"Leto," Turtle gave a smile back, nodding. "How's it going? Enjoying the new semester so far?"

It could be better, but he wasn't going to talk about that. "I'm looking forward to staying in the cabins," he said. "And you?"

"Oh, good!" Turtle said, nodding again. "I always like the start of a semester, when new people come in. I've met quite a few of them, I always like to say hi, you know. I understand you've met some new ones, too."

"Yes, I have," Leto replied, noting who Turtle made a point of not even asking whether he had. "I also have a 'little sibling', but I believe she will manage fine after the initial period of confusion." He smiled, thinking about Claire's reaction to the mention of squirrel radio. "Who have you been talking to so far." He leaned lightly against the counter.

"I know you suggested the Grape Judas," Zack said, walking up to the counter and smirking as he leaned over it a little, "but I have to confess that I'm kind of curious what in the world the smell of a newbie actually tastes like."

Turtle chuckled a little. "I'm a little curious myself," she admitted, although she was definitely not curious enough. "I don't mind letting you have a sample of both, if you want, Zack. Welcome to the store, by the way! Pretty nice, huh?"

"I have to say, I'm impressed," Zack decided, rocking on his heels as he straightened up and looked around. "Good layout. Plenty of sugary things. You sure I can try both? I don't want to hurt your business or anything."

The funny thing about Zack was, that statement was completely sincere.

"Somehow, I'll manage," Turtle said, trying to hold back her grin. "I had a good April. Bob, get him a sample size of Newbie in the Morning."

Obediently, the SquishyBot next to the counter started to move, laser eyes shifting as it prepared the drink somewhere in the vicinity of what would be its stomach before the robot arm handed the icy slush (it was kind of glittery) out for the customer.

"Hey, thanks!" Zack had seen a few robots in his time, but one that was quite so helpful was kind of new to him. He gave the SquishyBot a polite nod and reached for the drink that was handed to him, peering into the cup.

The only day spoken for is Wednesday, Amber Atkin's day. Turtle and G'Kar usually work Saturdays and Sundays, but are open to taking different days if anyone wants those!
