Guilty as Charged - 5/14 - Early Afternoon

Haley liked having the shop to herself, but at the same time, she didn't particularly like the idea of taking stock and putting out new inventory by herself. So, she decided to take out a classified ad, and sketched up a colorful sign to hang in the window.

No previous experience required.
Flexible hours and decent pay.

With that covered, she returned to her spot behind the counter, set the stereo to play her punk mix, and continued doodling in her sketchbook.

She can't help bobbing her head to the Sex Pistols. It's just...impossible.

Jon stopped into the shop and grinned as he looked around. "What days are you hiring for?

Haley couldn't hear the bell on the door over the music, so she didn't notice him until he spoke. Looking up at him, she closed her sketchbook for the moment. "Depends what days you're free really. I'm not picky and you're the first one in." Haley said with a shrug and a grin.

"Well, I'm available Thursdays and Fridays. And the only sports I really know a lot about are street hockey and snowboarding." He held out his hand. "Jon O'Neill."

"Haley Graham." She said as she leaned forward to shake his hand. "Street hockey and snowboarding isn't a bad background. We'll just have to go over some basics if you want to work with customers. Most bike and board stuff just sounds more complicated than it really is though."

"I take it you're a student?"

"Yeah. I've been in town a whole week." The bike and board stuff was probably a little more technical than it had been the last time he had owned either one.

"Me too." A beat. "Well, a bit longer than a week, but I think I'm still considered fresh meat."

"Sophomore or Junior?" He looked young, but he didn't look Freshman young.

"Junior. Two more years of madness and I can get to that Tibetan retreat I've been planning on."

Well, not really.

Haley nodded, curiosity accounting for her next question. "Any particular reason for Tibet? You know, besides possibly becoming a monk."

"Nope. Just to say that I've done it." And beat some other people to it. "I don't think I'd work out as a monk. I like mocking the bad guys too much."

"I don't think I'd work out as a monk because to some I'm probably considered a bad guy...girl. Plus, I have a short attention span so I'm pretty sure praying and meditation would bore me past the first hour." Haley said as she worked to tie up her hair.

"Do you think nine dollars an hour is fair?"

Jon coughed a bit at the price she named and nodded. "Oh, yeah, very fair. What days and what do you need me to do?"

"Alright, I'll schedule you for Thursdays since Friday was always a party night when I went to high school, and until you're ready, you can just help me out with taking stock and putting out the new inventory. Sound good?"

"Sounds great. Did you want me to start today or next week? Because I have the rest of the afternoon free." Eager was good, right?

"You don't have to start today unless you need the cash." Haley offered. She wasn't really a big fan of authority, so although she had the title of boss, she wasn't one to really enforce it or get a big head because of it.

Jon was slightly relieved at that, because he was thinking about disappearing someplace with a fishing pole for the rest of the day.
"Cool, I'll see you next week then."

"See you then." Haley said, watching him as he left and then returning to doodling.

I have to get used to putting these extra posts within a post up. I keep forgetting to do it.
