Cabot and Associates; Monday [ 05/18 ].

Dressed to her best to proudly represent the Associates part of all this, Turtle was finally coming in for work. It felt like it took forever for Monday to get here, but now it was, and she was ready for it! It was a little surreal, sitting behind the desk and thinking that she was actually employed by someone else for a change, but it was exciting, too! She was tempted to work on seeing if files needed organizing, but knew that was just an excuse to snoop a little and revel in all the delicious legal goodness, so she held off on that for right now and just brushed up on law documents available on the Intrawebz.

She's only just sat down for five minutes and already this job rocked.

The Law Offices of Cabot and Associates

So very open.

Outside the office the sound of barking and shouting cod be heard.

Turtle might want to take cover.

Apparently Nana didn't get the memo because there she was at the door pushing against it with her giant head.

At the other end of the leash was Dor trying to pull her away.

"Nana! No! Bad dog!"

"What I want is this dog to SIT! SIT!" Dor shouted. "SIT!"

And that would be when Nana began to howl.

"No! She- NANA! NO!"

And that's when the dog really pushed against the door.

And as soon as the door opened...

Nana plodded into the room at a quiet gait and then laid down on the floor in front of Turtle's desk.

Almost as if she were a good dog.

Dor regarded the whole thing suspiciously. "I swear that dog is messing with my head."

"I don't think so," Dor replied. "She usually just gets this way when... well honestly I think she just misses you and Jeff."

And as if on cue the dog let out a large sigh.

"Wait. You're the one who dumped her on me?" Dor asked incredulously. "This was your idea?"

Re: Talk to Turtle -- 05/18.

[identity profile] talks2objects.livejournal.com 2009-05-19 03:37 am (UTC)(link)
And that got another look. "So it was both your idea to give me a dog and porn?"

"But Jeff said it was an early birthday gift!" Dor flailed. "I didn't want a dog!"

And a brief second later.

"Or porn!"

Lies.

"Do you want it back?" Dor asked.

Dor flailed a bit realizing what he just asked. "Um. Right. I'll just go now. C'mon Nana. Let's leave."

Nana just stared at Dor and continued to drool on the floor.

Dor sighed and tugged on the leash. With a slow heavy sigh, Nana got up and trodded to the door.

Alex Cabot was here, and Alex was bored. Two weeks since she'd been in a courtroom. Maybe she could set up a mock court here. For the students.

At least she wasn't bored enough to start filling out frivolous lawsuits.

... yet.

"Good," Alex said, unable to avoid giving the girl a grin. "So is this every bit as exciting as you'd hoped?"

They'd probably have work eventually.

"You're either a fabulous liar, or the kind of person who reads case files just for the hell of it," Alex laughed. Not unkindly. She herself fit one of those categories, if not both.

"Touché," Alex grinned. "How did you end up prosecuting a murder case, may I ask?"

"Was he a lawyer?" she asked, frowning as she tried to remember the specifics. "No, he was ... he was the victim of the case, wasn't he?"

"You would think, if he knew who was going to kill him, he would have called the cops instead of playing games with his will," Alex mused. "I guess that's part of the crazy-but-brilliant thing."

Hell, Alex was faking her own death. She would have understood the need for privacy on such things.

"Was that your first experience with the law?" she asked. "Or did you grow up around it?"

Alex nodded. "Which explains you owning a shop in town," she said. "We have a few day traders in the family. They seem even more stressed than I am. You'd think the Journal was a Bible."

"Afraid not," Alex laughed. This, from someone who had the ABA Journal as her homepage. "So are you thinking of corporate law, then? Or did prosecuting your first case lure you to the dark side?"

It was better than sex. Winning cases, sending pedophiles to jail, destroying someone's testimony on the stand ... nothing else felt that alive, to Alex.

"Murders can take a lot out of you," Alex agreed. "Sex crimes, too. The living victims can be even harder than the dead ones. If you've got a good head for business, you can make serious money as a corporate attorney. I'm not sure how much of the inside of a courtroom you'd get to see, since a lot of places would rather pay off settlements than risk a judgment. Unless you're the big gun they call in when they need to deliver an ass-kicking."
