Caritas - Friday evening [Open]

For all of Jolee's exaggerations about how he was old and senile, every once in a while he actually did forget things like the fact that today was Friday. In his defense, this was because he had been spending a good amount of time meditating recently.

But that meant that Tino had free reign of the bar tonight. Therefore, it was shirtless day. At least for Tino.

[OOC: Mod the moddable one! Just don't mod his shirt. It's off. It's not going back on tonight.]

Daisy wasn't really feeling like going out to Baltimore tonight. This was something that almost had her wondering if she was feeling well, until she actually got to the bar. She had to laugh before she was able to order up her usual vodka and orange, but now she knew why she didn't want to go out tonight.

"Aw, Tino, and here I didn't bring with me any singles, either."

"...single what?" Mina asked, having overheard the comment.

"Oh! Hullo, Mina!" Daisy smiled brightly at the other woman. "I didn't see you there. And single dollar bills. You know, to compliment him on his shirtlessness. They'd traditionally go in something a bit skimpier than his trousers, but I don't think I can get him to take those off."

Pause.

"Well, I might. I've got a couple fivers."

"Are you encouraging him to disrobe even further?" Mina said.

"That would be the idea of it, Mina, yes," Daisy said, chuckling, too amused to bother saying that she didn't want to waste five bucks like that. This response would probably be much better.

"Surely that violates the health code," Mina said.

Daisy tried to hold back the laugh, searching Mina's face for sincerity, but, finding it, she couldn't help the chuckle. "Oh, sure. The zombies with the bits of themselves falling off are okay, but, God forbid, a man in his under-roos might violate the health code. You can see that one's intestines, but we mustn't see a bit of skin, should we?"

"The zombies do not serve drink," Mina said. "His... bodily fluids may end up in things."

"...how?" asked Daisy, after a moment, again failing not to laugh. "I mean, it wouldn't be as if he's...you know...." She was being kind to Mina by not saying it, although the wink probably said it well enough.

Mina suddenly blanched.

"I obviously should pause to think before I speak my outrage," she said.

It had been a damn long time, really. Sarah could set things aside once in a while, at least for a 10-minute chat in a bar.

"Hey, Daisy." She sounded tired. "How are things?"

A very, very long time. Teasing Tino about stripping left Daisy's mind and she blinked a little in surprise.

"Hi, Sarah," she said. "They're good. You?"

"Good. Teaching." And speaking in single words. She sipped her drink to see if that would help. "I'm heading out of town for a few days, but I'll be back."

"I noticed," Daisy nodded. "About the teaching, I mean. A spy class. I take it the cat's rather out of the bag on the whole hush-hush business?"

"There is," Sarah said as she tried not to wince, "very little value in being hush-hush on an island where everyone is from a different world. I wasn't getting anything they could use. Better to cut their losses."

She supposed, strictly speaking, Ellie was from her world, but she was from such a different point on the timeline that it didn't really count.

"I read the class list too," she added. "Healthy eating? How's it going?"

Daisy gave a slight grunt. "I think one of my girls sneaks Pop-Tarts, which probably covers it nicely."

Sarah covered a giggle with her fingertips before recovering and looking appropriately sympathetic. "I got my ex-boy-thing's sister in my class," she offered. "She's 16. Here, I mean. She's almost 30 at home."

Daisy smiled a little. It was a reluctant smile, one that liked that Sarah had giggled and remembered that they used to talk like this all the time, but there was a reason they didn't anymore and she just wanted to ask if any of that had changed, that wanted to demand to know if she still thought it was okay to support someone's crimes just because they were family, just because it was part of her assignment...

But she didn't. "That's got to be a little strange," she said. "Does she know you're her brother's future ex-girl-thing?"

None of that had changed. None of that would ever change.

Giggling and talking were still nice, even if Sarah saw the reluctant note in the smile, remembered, and lost a bit of her levity.

"I had to tell her," she said, tracing a little doodle with her fingertip on the top of the bar. "It would have just felt too weird not to. I didn't go into too many specifics, and she didn't ask."

"Have you had anybody turn up like that?"

Tomorrow, Sarah went back to work, so she wasn't going to get drunk, but she did need something to take the edge off. She ordered a Cosmo with a wee umbrella from the shirtless guy, then twirled the umbrella idly between her fingers.
