Caritas - Tuesday Evening [Open]

"Uh, Tino, someone who definitely wasn't me knocked over an entire shelf's worth of olives onto the store room floor."

Tino stared at Marshall.

Marshall coughed. "So you better get cleaning that."

After a couple more moments of staring, Tino grabbed a mop and headed towards the store room. He hated his life.

"Marshall," Tyler said as he took a stool, "I'm bored. Give me beer."

"Coming up," Marshall said. He got the beer quickly and slid it over to Tyler. "Best way to cure boredom in my book. Well. That and playing on the Wii."

Mostly because he did it without pants.

"I don't have a Wii," Tyler said, almost sounding sad about it. "Maybe I should get one. I bet my housemate would go halfsies."

"You totally should. It's freaking amazing and kills a bunch of time," he said. "I kind of want to get another one for my office."

"I miss having an office," Tyler said. "It's all nice and ... official." Exactly, Tyler. "Plus, God knows there's a lot of time to kill here. I love having a job where I only have to show up once or twice a week until I don't."

"Man, I loved that," Marshall said, almost looking wistful. "But teaching isn't so bad this semester. Get to spend all my time playing at the beach."

"Playing on the beach is a class?" Tyler asked, impressed. "Wish I'd thought of that. I know I'm going to have to come up with something new to teach soon."

"Yeah, me too," he said. "I don't think I'm gonna hit the genius of a beach class again."

"You could just redo it," Tyler suggested. "Playing on the Beach II: Extreme Edition."

He gave Marshall an amused look. "Didn't you teach a class on eating, too?"

Marshall laughed. "Yeah, I did. That was one of my better ideas too."

"You could do a class on Wii," Tyler suggested, actually halfway serious.

"That's not a half-bad idea," Marshall said. "Think I could pass it off as a gym class?"

"For this school? Sure. Especially if you did that balance board thing."

"Oh man. Don't try that thing while you're drunk," Marshall said, shaking his head. "It doesn't end well."

"Yeah, I like my nose in one piece," Tyler said, touching the organ in question. "And if I change my mind I'll find a more interesting way to break it."

Person! Ghani grabbed her drink and moved to plop down next to Tyler.

"Is it cruel if I try to teach my students the parkour basics in one class, or simply entertaining?" she asked, taking a long sip. "I'm leaning towards entertaining, but we both know my sense of humor."

"Parkour's the one where you run at shit, right," Tyler said, with a grin for Ghanima. "I say totally entertaining. Maybe do it in the Danger Shop so nobody can break any bones and overload the clinic."

Hi was for other people.

"Run at shit and jump off buildings, yes." Hi was for people who were not Ghanima or her friends. There was no reason to dither if you actually had something to talk about, and Ghani was used to starting up mid-thought, since she was so used to talking with Leto.

Being a twin, and a preborn, was hell on your conversation skills at times.

"We usually meet in the Danger Shop - this week I made them do astronavigation through a featureless grassland - so I can't loose them."

"Then I say you do it," Tyler decided. "Astronavigation? Man, I couldn't do that. Were they any good at it?"

"I gave them a star map, pointed out the North Star, and made them march East to find a campsite. I didn't make them sail and find land or anything," she protested. "I even gave them s'mores for doing it right."

"Well," Tyler said, teasingly mollified, "if there were s'mores, I withdraw my comment."

"So you're saying you'd track by the food, and not the stars?" Ghani teased. "I suppose I should not be surprised."

"You think I'd be a good enough tracker to smell s'mores across the plain?" Tyler asked. "I'm flattered, Ghanima."

"Well, I was always told that flattery will get me everywhere," Ghanima quipped. "The benefits of being pretty."

"Although I'm rather sure that sugar has a homing beacon in it, which allows people of all ages to hone in on its siren song."

"Someone told you you were pretty?" Tyler asked. As if he'd never thought exactly that. "And sugar might. Nothing like the buzz of free booze, though."

"My brother, but usually when he wants something. The one my age, not this one. Who is still my brother, but hasn't tried that on me. Lately." Ghanima tried before letting her head thump onto the bar. "I'm not nearly drunk yet enough to try and deal with the timeline nonsense."

"Do you ever write to your brother at home to bitch about the one here, or vice versa?" Tyler asked.

"I wrote to inform him that he wasn't funny, not warning me about this," Ghanima replied. "I actually tell both of them that, on a regular basis."

"Someone has to keep him humble, after all."

"And that's what sisters are for," Tyler finished. "Hey, on a total subject change, were you watching me and Triela Sunday?"

"When I wasn't trying to convince other students to try and Judo-flip me, yes, I watched all the bouts," Ghanima answered. "Why?"

"The whole situation is really fucking strange," Tyler answered, swishing his beer around a bit. "Have you ever had her in class? I don't know what to make of her."

Ghanima was feeling restless, most likely due to the thunderstorms that had swept through earlier, and so went in search of entertainment.

"Something appallingly alcoholic and fruity, please," she said as she claimed a seat. "Hopefully with an umbrella."

"You have got the right bartender for that," Marshall said. "I love those kind of drinks."

"Then I leave myself in good hands," Ghanima laughed, bowing her head at him. "What do you suggest?"

"Want a strawberry daquiri?" he asked. "Nice and fruity and loaded with rum."

"Ah, rum. The currency of this island," she teased. "That sounds lovely, thank you."

"Coming right up," Marshall said. "And I mean right up. I've gotten good at making these so I don't take forever."

"Is it like a sport?" Ghani leaned on the bar, intrigued. "I feel as if I should start up a cheer."

"If it was a sport I'd totally kick ass at it," Marshall told her as he bent down to grab strawberries out of the fridge.

"You ought to host a contest one night! Bring in all the bartenders, and have a set drink list that people have to make. Just think how much business you'd bring in," Ghanima mused. "I would pay a cover to see that."

"That's not a bad idea," Marshall said. He began pouring all the needed ingredients into a blender. "Though between you and me, I think Robin would win it. She's had more experience than me."
