Book Haven, Saturday [06/06]

After the embarrassing mess with Joan, Jess had spent the last few days hiding out and trying to keep his thoughts clean. Living with a hot girl made that infinitely more difficult, so he was almost glad for the excuse to go to the bookstore for work. Reading true crime novels about adulterous murders might not have been the best way to spend his time, but it made him feel a little better deep down.

Brooke was having an interesting day, let's put it that way, but there was no possible way she could go without seeking out Jess. It was about early afternoon when she came by, saying, "The island's been going crazy for days and you couldn't come and find me?"

Just the sound of Brooke's voice had Jess's full attention on her, and his book was quickly forgotten. "I thought giving in to the crazy isn't usually a good idea," he said.

"Well that's disappointing," she told him, walking over.

"It's definitely been disappointing. And frustrating. And all the other words like that," Jess said, staring at her as she walked over, whether it was awkward or not.

She found somewhere to lean over, because she was sort of totally not shy and had no problems showing off her cleavage to hot guys. "No one should spend this week disappointed and frustrated," she said, shaking her head. "It's just not right."

If it was anyone but Brooke in front of him, Jess might not have allowed himself to enjoy the show. But Brooke was the kind of girl who always seemed to know what she was doing, so he didn't really feel bad leaning over too. "I had a bad start, and I could only imagine things going downhill from there."

Brooke smiled at that, noting, "And then I showed up."

"You're making the day look up, that's for sure," he said. "I don't suppose you came in looking for a book?"

"I'm pretty sure no one here's seen me read," Brooke said with a grin. "Don't know if you heard radio the other night, but I did demand payback for making me report about you and another girl." Even if it was just movie-watching in her notes.

"It's not what you think. That's what kind of fell apart," Jess said. He was trying not to think too hard about who it might have been who interrupted them. "What kind of payback are you thinking about?"

As much as she was doing this week, she couldn't say she was sorry to hear that it'd fallen apart. "Oh, I don't know... Probably something dirty," she nodded. "I could come up with something else maybe if you're not interested in that."

"No, dirty is good!" Jess said, so quickly it was almost embarrassing. "I mean with you."

That got a genuine smile out of her, one that wasn't just meant to be flirty. She really liked hearing it. "About time," she said, leaning in closer.

"I'm sorry I didn't come find you sooner," Jess said, leaning in to close the space and try to kiss Brooke.

Oh, she could definitely make him sorrier, in good ways. Kissing him back, she brought a hand up to his face, trying to keep him close and forgetting about the counter for a moment.

Jess kissed her back harder, resisting the urge to try to pull her over the counter. He was hormonal, not a giant after all, but it was nice to think about.

For a moment she was focused enough on kissing him to not mind the barrier too much, but it was a quick moment. She pulled back to murmur a "Wait," then came around the corner to try and resume the good part.

That was so much better, and Jess was more than happy to resume things, slipping his arms around Brooke as he moaned and kissed her harder.

Able to wrap her arms around him now- good job with that moving, Brooke- she pressed herself closer, happily getting carried away since her hormones were slightly more in overdrive than usual and it wasn't like a work setting bothered her.

The work setting might have bothered Jess if he wasn't so far gone, but he wasn't worried now, not with how good it felt to have Brooke in his arms. Still, in the back of his mind, he was aware that a more appropriate place could be better. "We should get out of here," he said, catching his breath. "You should get proper payback, after all."

"I'm up for it," she said, breathing deeply. "I'm not exactly picky on setting." Which should probably be obvious.

"Want to go to your room?" Jess asked. "My roommate might not appreciate me kicking her or keeping her out."

"I so want to go back to my room," she agreed, resisting the urge to kiss him again as a celebration for them figuring out where. She'd pay him back later. With interest.

Jess resisted the urge to kiss her again by flipping the sign on the door and opening it for Brooke. He might have had just enough brainpower left to remember to lock the door behind them too.
