Android's Dungeon [Open 6/10]

Claire was idly paging through some issues of Ninth Wonders and making mental notes of the things Isaac hadn't gotten quite right.

She would be pleased to help anyone who stopped by though.

Dinah held the door for Triela, grinning over her shoulder. "Have you ever gotten into comic books?" Seeing Claire, she waved to her roomate. "Hey! How's your day going?"

[identity profile] sorella-vecchia.livejournal.com 2009-06-10 08:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Triela shook her head. "I've never been much of a reader." That was Claes' role back at the Agency.

"These are much more just for fun," Dinah said, picking up a Bitterwoman comic, and opening it to the bright, action-packed pages of her fight for justice. "Since they're art as much as storytelling."

"Hey, Claire," Triela flashed a quick grin at the other girl before turning back to look over Dinah's shoulder. "It's a very... interesting style," she decided.

[identity profile] blondecanary.livejournal.com 2009-06-10 08:50 pm (UTC)(link)
"Thanks!" Dinah said, looking up for a second with a grin. "So, these, and they've got other crimefighter ones, like Ratman and Really Strong Guy Who Can Fly.... and meta for Strangers in Paradise, which I like, but it's frustrating. I don't think either of those girls are going to end up with the cute guy," Dinah said, crouching down to pick up a copy.

"Interesting," Triela said slowly. "I'm not sure if these are my thing, though." She picked up a few and started flipping through them.

[identity profile] blondecanary.livejournal.com 2009-06-10 09:04 pm (UTC)(link)
"Give me a minute to pick up some of my faves," Dinah suggested. "If you don't see anything that hits you, we can wander off for clothes of Slushies." She pointed to Minerva (http://search.barnesandnoble.com/booksearch/isbnInquiry.asp?r=1&ISBN=9781582403038&ourl=Athena%2DInc%2DVolume%2D1%2FBrian%2DHaberlin). "You might like that one, too."

[identity profile] sorella-vecchia.livejournal.com 2009-06-10 09:06 pm (UTC)(link)
"Do you read regular books too, or is it mostly comics for you?" Triela asked as she picked it up and turned it over in her hands.

[identity profile] blondecanary.livejournal.com 2009-06-10 09:07 pm (UTC)(link)
"Regular books too, if they're short." Dinah flashed a grin up at her. "Short attention span is short." She flipped through another new one. "And poetry. Edgar Allan Poe. Shakespeare. I have simple tastes."

"Like I said, I've never been all that big a reader." Triela was more of an action sort of girl. "But you enjoy them?"

[identity profile] blondecanary.livejournal.com 2009-06-10 09:22 pm (UTC)(link)
"Yup." Dinah got up, books under her arms. "Yet that terror was not fright / But a tremulous delight- / A feeling not the jewelled mine / Could teach or bribe me to define- / Nor Love- although the Love were thine." She shrugged, not sure how to explain. "Poetry's-- compact. I can't write it, but the words mean more than one thing at once."

[identity profile] sorella-vecchia.livejournal.com 2009-06-10 09:23 pm (UTC)(link)
"Like good music," Triela agreed with a thoughtful nod. "Or a painting."

[identity profile] blondecanary.livejournal.com 2009-06-10 09:28 pm (UTC)(link)
"Yes. Like that." Lacking subtlety herself sometimes, if not complexity, Dinah loved when she could find and recognize it for what it was. "Most of the graphic novels aren't like that at first look, but-- see, look at this one." She held up a copy of SiP, and pointed to the cover art. "The brunette's trying to keep the blonde from braining the guy, but it's not 'til you look a second time that you see the nuclear explosion in the background." She grinned. "Layers."

[identity profile] sorella-vecchia.livejournal.com 2009-06-10 09:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Triela snorted, amused. "Are you trying to say that nuclear explosions are subtle?"

[identity profile] blondecanary.livejournal.com 2009-06-10 09:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Dinah grinned. "Considering motivations..." She picked out another copy of Emerald Guardian, and said, "I'm good. Want to go get a Slushie now?"

[identity profile] sorella-vecchia.livejournal.com 2009-06-10 09:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Triela laughed this time. "I don't have much of a sweet tooth, but I'll be glad to watch you drink one of them and start bouncing off the walls."

[identity profile] blondecanary.livejournal.com 2009-06-10 09:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Beaming a grin at her, Dinah went and handwavily paid for her purchases, said good-bye to her roommate, and headed to the exit. "Purple! Or maybe Red. Although I think I'd like Sparkle Slushie if they had that again." She bounced out into the street, swinging her bag in one hand. "What would you be doing for fun in Rome?"

[identity profile] sorella-vecchia.livejournal.com 2009-06-10 09:47 pm (UTC)(link)
"Fun," Triela repeated, drawing the word out. "Most of my time at the Agency is strictly scheduled. Training, classes, chores, missions..."

She thought about it. "I guess I spend most of my down time checking on the other girls, making sure they're doing okay and don't need anything."

[identity profile] blondecanary.livejournal.com 2009-06-10 09:49 pm (UTC)(link)
That was no good. Dinah shook her head. "And what would they check on with you?" She started walking backwards so she could look at Triela. "What would they think you need?"

[identity profile] sorella-vecchia.livejournal.com 2009-06-10 09:51 pm (UTC)(link)
That drew another amused snort. "No one ever asks me that." Well, except for Hilshire every so often, and that always got so awkward...

[identity profile] blondecanary.livejournal.com 2009-06-10 09:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Dinah found that kind of sad, but not unexpected. "Any ideas?" She paused, looking in the York Gallery as they went by. "We don't have to always do what I suggest." She grinned. "After the Slushie, I mean." Another question that had been itching at her came to mind. "Do you guys ever get to date? At all? Or make friends who aren't with your agency?"

[identity profile] sorella-vecchia.livejournal.com 2009-06-10 10:14 pm (UTC)(link)
"That would constitute a major security risk, Dinah." Triela smiled a bit fondly at her friend. That was a 'no'.

[identity profile] blondecanary.livejournal.com 2009-06-10 10:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Shaking her head, Dinah muttered, "You'd think they'd want young guys as opposite numbers that you could hang with, at least..." But maybe they were still too-obvious assassins for the Agency taste. Boys were supposed to be violent, threatening, and male child-soldiers were fairly common. Maybe knowing what Triela's life expectancy was supposed to be, they thought they'd never have to deal with her growing up, though. "It wouldn't be one here," Dinah pointed out instead. "If you wanted to." She swung her bag around in a circle as she spun.

[identity profile] sorella-vecchia.livejournal.com 2009-06-10 10:32 pm (UTC)(link)
"That's true," Triela agreed. "But... I wouldn't even know where to start. Even if I knew I wanted to." And she didn't. It wasn't like Triela had given all that much thought to the subject of romance.

[identity profile] blondecanary.livejournal.com 2009-06-10 10:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Dinah stopped spinning, and turned to look at Triela consideringly. "Something to think about? Like the music. And books. You're going to be here a while. Why live like you're still in Rome?" She paused, then said, "And the Island might mess with you again. If you're more familiar with the feelings, well. It won't be so confusing." She bit back any comment on Leto, and said, "There are a lot of cute guys here. Some of them are fun to hang out with. Or might like you."

[identity profile] sorella-vecchia.livejournal.com 2009-06-10 10:53 pm (UTC)(link)
"Maybe," Triela allowed.

She didn't sound sure. Not because Dinah wasn't right, but because this was unfamiliar territory. And Triela was never very comfortable in unfamiliar territory.

"But the dating thing seems so... complicated." She shook her head.

[identity profile] blondecanary.livejournal.com 2009-06-10 10:57 pm (UTC)(link)
"It doesn't have to be. I mean, the end part is. But the beginning, not so much." Dinah leaned down to pick a dandelion from in between the cracks of the sidewalk, and blew its seeds away. "Look at me and Zack. We go out for food we both like. We don't expect it to be anything but talking about stuff we like, then maybe go for a run." She tilted her head. "It might not go any further than that. But it's a good start."

[identity profile] sorella-vecchia.livejournal.com 2009-06-10 10:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Triela considered Dinah for a moment. "And if it doesn't go any further, won't it get awkward?" She'd seen people being awkward, after all, and it wasn't something she wanted any part of.

[identity profile] blondecanary.livejournal.com 2009-06-10 11:01 pm (UTC)(link)
"Not with Zack." Dinah was sure of that much, and she paused, thinking about that. It'd been awkward with Leto, still was, but not as bad as it could have been. "Maybe the trick is to be friends first. Trust them not to be jerks, if it doesn't click. Like them enough not to be a jerk yourself, if they decide they don't like you that way." She admitted, "I've only had one boyfriend. And he was a jerk when he dumped me. But I came here, and didn't stay there, so I avoided the awkward. The Island's a little small for that, but you can do that too."

[identity profile] sorella-vecchia.livejournal.com 2009-06-10 11:06 pm (UTC)(link)
"So what you're saying," Triela grinned teasingly, "is that you're not an expert on the subject and that any advice you give should be taken with a grain of salt."

[identity profile] blondecanary.livejournal.com 2009-06-10 11:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Dinah grinned, twirling again. "I'm really really not." She thought of The Book hidden under her bed. "But it's fun? For me, anyway. And dates and hugs and kisses are nice. They're not music or poetry, or Slushies, but they've got their up-side."

[identity profile] sorella-vecchia.livejournal.com 2009-06-10 11:10 pm (UTC)(link)
"Like what?" Triela asked. Still teasing a bit, but mostly genuinely curious.

[identity profile] blondecanary.livejournal.com 2009-06-10 11:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Romeo's words from Monday came back to her. "Connection. Warmth." She bit her lip. "A zing under your skin. Even if you're not touching someone. Like, ummm, surfing. And guys are different, the way they think. It's interesting to hang out with them. Even without fuzzy or carbonated feelings."

[identity profile] sorella-vecchia.livejournal.com 2009-06-10 11:15 pm (UTC)(link)
"I know they're different," Triela snorted and rolled her eyes. "Don't forget my partner is one." Even if their relationship was... odd.

"As for the connection thing... I get that with my friends." Not whatever a 'zing under your skin' was supposed to be, but the other stuff.

[identity profile] blondecanary.livejournal.com 2009-06-10 11:20 pm (UTC)(link)
"He's too old," Dinah said bluntly. "It's not the same as hanging out with a guy our age." She tried to think what someone could get out of dating if they didn't want to feel hormones, or found them hard to understand. "Do you have any guy friends you like to hang with?" she asked, curious.

[back in an hour or so!]

[identity profile] sorella-vecchia.livejournal.com 2009-06-10 11:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Triela had to think about the question. Not Leto, he was definitely too annoying. Except... sometimes he wasn't. Still, that probably wasn't what Dinah meant.

Some of the guys in gun club... but most of them had graduated... "Um..." she frowned. "I don't think so."

[identity profile] blondecanary.livejournal.com 2009-06-11 12:41 am (UTC)(link)
"Maybe you should." Dinah shrugged. "Heck, maybe it'll turn out you're a lesbian, or bi." She smiled. "But get something to compare it to. See if you even like guys at all. Even as friends."

[identity profile] sorella-vecchia.livejournal.com 2009-06-11 12:47 am (UTC)(link)
"I've had friends that were boys before," Triela shrugged. "But most of them graduated."

[identity profile] blondecanary.livejournal.com 2009-06-11 12:50 am (UTC)(link)
"That works, then." Dinah shrugged back at her, then smiled. "Just something to think about. Hang out. Maybe go on a date. Figure out the other stuff later."

[identity profile] sorella-vecchia.livejournal.com 2009-06-11 01:56 am (UTC)(link)
"I'll think about it," Triela allowed. And she would. Even if she didn't really see the point. Dinah wouldn't give her bad advice on purpose, after all.

[identity profile] blondecanary.livejournal.com 2009-06-11 01:59 am (UTC)(link)
"Cool," Dinah said, content to have given Triela some ideas. "Now. handwavey Slushie?"

[identity profile] sorella-vecchia.livejournal.com 2009-06-11 02:04 am (UTC)(link)
"We wouldn't want you to collapse in a dead faint from low blood sugar," Triela agreed with a laugh.
