Caritas - Friday evening [Open]

Tino was just bugging Jolee tonight. No special reason for it or anything. All Tino was doing was being young, and Jolee was irritated by that. So he was in the lounge with a glass of water while Tino manned the bar.

[OOC: I just got home from a long day of work. I have little inspiration. Ping Jolee in the lounge if you want to chat, otherwise mod Tino.]

The afternoon at the spaaaaa left Daisy feeling divine, and it would be a shame to let a feeling like that go to waste. So she got all ready to go out, pulling a pitstop at Caritas to see if anyone fun was hanging out before she took off for the city.

From across the bar, Ben waved and signaled for Tino to send a drink Daisy's way.

Daisy gave Ben a little look across the bar for a moment before giving a wave back, and when Tino came around with that drink, she sent him right back, because she was relocating to join Ben and that way it'll be there when she got over there.

"Like you can get away with just sending me a drink and leaving it at that," she said, going to give him a kiss on the cheek by way of introduction.

"I was curious to see what you'd do," Ben said. "I can't say that I'm unhappy with the result."

Daisy slid easily onto the stool beside him. "How are you?" she asked. "Didn't expect to run into you here, but I can't say I'm unhappy with that, either."

"I come here sometimes," Ben said. "And some of those times I'm not forced into manning the bar. That part's pretty rare, though."

"Oh, that's right," Daisy chuckled a little. "I like when you get conned into bar duty. It works out well for me."

"I do my best to provide good service even if I don't get a paycheck," Ben said, attempting to suggest that it was his bartending skills that Daisy liked so much.

"You're such a good, kind soul, Ben," said Daisy, grinning. "So selflessly helping others get drunk on short and random notice."

"With great power comes great responsibility," Ben said. "And I'm really good at suddenly giving people booze, apparently, so it's my responsibility to do it."

"Perhaps it's some sort of balance thing," Daisy offered. "Since you imbibe none, you're just the person to give it to others. Or something. My head's not exactly in a deeply philosophical mode at the moment."

"Is that because of too many drinks or not enough drinks?" Ben asked.

"Neither." Daisy closed her eyes a moment with a dreamy kind of smile. "It's because this afternoon's teacher's meeting was at the spa. If I'd have known spa trips were involved, I might have had fewer reservations about this whole teaching bit."

"I take it this meeting didn't focus on lesson plans and such," Ben said.

"I think it was a bit of a thank you for being steady on teaching all those kids even under crazy things like alligators."

"Especially when you have to try to teach them something like healthy living," Ben said.

"I did an exercise unit this week," said Daisy, shaking her head. "Most of them did well. I'm pretty sure two of them were flirting, which was adorable, but some of them....It's....bad to wish the fate of my fat Chinese grandmother on a student, isn't it?"

"Not unless you can make that wish reality," Ben said.

"Well, I can't, so there's that. Not unless this island decides to pull one on us and start making wishes come true. Which...would be insane."

"Of course, it would all end up in the classic 'the genie is messing with you' mold. Someone would wish for money, and then the you'd be arresting them for burglary," Ben theorized.

"Oh, well, that would just get all sorts of messy," said Daisy with a slight frown.

Ben didn't like the frown. "I bet that if someone wished for everyone to be happy, everything would work out, though. It would be tough for that to go wrong."

The good thing about Daisy's frown was that it was fairly mercurial, especially since she was snorting with a slight smirk now. "I don't even know if I'm even that optimistic, Ben."

"Only because you're not trying hard enough," Ben pointed out.

Daisy took a moment to consider this, a look crossing her face to express that Ben did have a pretty decent point there.

"Okay, maybe," she allowed. "I can't try too hard. I spent the afternoon at the spaaaaaa."

"I take it that the trip was nice?" Ben asked.

"I've got to do stuff like that more often," said Daisy with an easy, lazy grin.

"Well, I know what to get you for your birthday now," Ben said.

"Think you'll remember it by September?"

"I'm still feeling pretty optimistic," Ben said.

"Well, of course you are; that's part of why I like you so much."

"You list reasons that you like me so much so often that I'm beginning to think that you're trying to tell me something," Ben said. "You know, I think somebody just might like me."

"Funny you should mention that," said Daisy. "I've always felt your astute deductive reasoning was yet another reason why I like you."

"World's Greatest Detective," Ben reminded her.

Daisy snapped her fingers. "How could I forget? It's a good thing you're in the resale business, or else I might just be put out of a job."

"I respect law enforcement too much to do something like that," Ben said. "Also, I'd be scared to see what you'd get yourself into if you didn't have the police force to keep yourself busy."

"I could stick to teaching!" Daisy pointed out. "Only I'd likely be bitter and resentful, and only do it for the spaaaa."

"And while we certainly could use a few more teachers in the world who teach for spite and freebies, I can't help but think some of that bitterness would be directed at me," Ben said. "I'm not sure I could deal with that. So I'll just stick to resale."

"I couldn't hold any resentment toward you, Ben," said Daisy with a soft smile. "Especially not if you were taking it because you're better at it."

If Daisy was saying that about policework, she was either just joking, lying, or saying the sweetest thing possible. Awww. "In that case, I should be honest. I'm not actually a great detective. I'm decent at it, but I'm much better at convincing people to tell me what I need to know. That has less to do with deduction and more to do with mocking their fashion sense."

Ben approached the bar carefully. It was the old man's night. That meant Ben needed a strategy. Come in late. Don't approach directly from the front. Sneak along the rooftops and drop down in front of the bar when nobody was looking.

The fact that he did all of this only to see Jolee in the lounge meant that Ben felt a little silly when he ordered a club soda from Tino.

Mary had been prepared to stay in and watch another movie, but somehow, it just didn't have the same appeal anymore. So she found herself at Caritas.

"I'll take a Shirley Temple, please, with extra cherries."
