Support Services Meeting: The Park, Friday at lunchtime

The incredibly girly posters had been handwavey said to meet a little earlier this time, but Francine had a reason for that. When people got to the main picnic shelter, they'd find all the tables covered today. With food. Some of it was open and obviously for nomming on right away, but most of it was small, pre-packaged items, or things one could easily shove into a small package.

Francine sat up on one of the tables near the front, looking a little less nervous than she had for the last couple of meetings. This stuff, she knew, and didn't feel like an idiot trying to tell other people about.

"One of the things we can do to help out is to make sure the people who are out there defending us have something to eat - and us too. It may not seem like a huge deal, but if you're wearing yourself out fighting or throwing energy bolts at something, you need to re-fuel - and it's the same thing if you're staying up til four in the morning in the library, trying to find a cure or break a spell. If we have food ready, it's one less thing that everybody else doesn't have to think about." She smiled and picked up a small bag of cookies. "And it's just nice to know somebody cares, too, you know? Food's comforting, and it's a reminder that we're all trying to help each other, when you need that little extra push to get through."

"We've got lists of all the members of the Fighting and Magic Reserves here, so we're gonna try two things at once today: get used to putting stuff like this together, and get to know the people on the other teams. Everybody gets to pack a lunch, and then try to go find somebody in one of the Reserves to give it to! Not that they're meeting as groups today, but think of it like a scavenger hunt: you get an extra bag of cookies next week if you managed feed a reservist." She paused, then added, "Or, you know, anybody who looks hungry."

[OOC: Bridgey gets no free cookies; for her, there's a toll. The rest of you may play, for OCD is up!]

Maron wasn't sure that cookies were really an excellent lunch, but they were excellent tasting and she was more than willing to nibble on a few of them while she checked out the lists for other people's numbers.

There were cookies again! Harper helped herself to a cookie and grabbed both sets of lists.

Gabrielle, still cell-phone free and a little woozy today from her caffeine-and-sugar crash, was carefully liberating the white chocolate chunks from the cookies one by one via Very Purposeful Nibbling. She took a copy of each of the lists, not that they would do her much good at the moment, but it paid to be prepared.

At this point in canon, Karla did not yet know anyone who have been dragged, face-down, through Hell. She did know, however, that such a feat was possible, even if she'd never seen it. Today, Karla certainly felt as if she'd experienced such an event. Probably looked a bit like it, too. Too bad she couldn't blame the alcohol. Even with the massive amounts she'd consumed last night and early this morning, she was fine.

She listlessly dragged herself over to the table with cookies and grabbed a few. She wasn't hungry, but she knew she should eat.

"... are you all right, Karla?" Jack asked. It was difficult not to notice she seemed a bit off.

Jack was there and got a FREE COOKIE and his phone lists, which he started copying into his Blackberry digit by digit.

He'd figured out how the phone book worked. That didn't mean he was fast at it.

Even if Turtle wasn't totally a big supporter of....supporting, she'd want to come to these things just for all the FREE COOKIES.

Valentine still doubted that she was here to support anything other than her own personal networking of people, but, hey, there were FREE COOKIES. And she did rather like the concept behind today's meeting.

Maron would probably be a while, while she inspected everything that was offered and contemplated the options.

Mmmm. Making lunch! She'd get one done eventually.

It was just like the time she worked at the Waverly Place Sub Station! Harper was feeling nostalgic for all those times she ran into Alex's dad with a handful of food as she packed a lunch.

Ellie had packed countless lunches for Chuck over the years. She was practically an an expert at this.

As far as Jack was concerned, they might as well dress him in pinafores and rename him Sally, if he was going to be making boxed lunches. He'd put a lunch together -- turkey sandwich, vegetables, water and a cookie -- and even try to look cheerful about it. But mentally, he was deciding he could skip support services until the next time the posters promised something useful.

With a little bit of intrigue, Valentine couldn't help noticing the cheerful facade that Jack was trying to throw over a persistent seeming distaste. So, of course, she had to go and bother him about it a little.

"Don't look so pleased, there, Jack; you'll frighten everyone with the force of your excitement."

Valentine was incredibly relieved to see that much of the food was actually premade and the whole of the task would be throwing it together in a presentable and pleasant way.

Because there was no way presentable and pleasant was likely to be a part of the equation if she actually had to do more than organize it.

...Turtle used to pack lunches for Jeff.

Urg. One of these days, maybe something she goes into won't leave her thinking about Jeff and getting that kick in the stomach that made her feel incredibly weak in the arms and depressed. One of the days...

Sullenly, she started packing a lunch, wondering if it would count that she could just make it for herself, since she worked with the regular fighting reserve, too...

Just wanted to clarify that Jack being Victorian and sexist about it all has nothing to do with my attitude to Support Services, which I think rock. (I know everyone knows IC =/= OOC, but I still get a little *flail* about it when it's that far off.)
