Imperial Brim, [Friday, June 19]

It was paperwork day for the Imperial Brim. Irulan liked to write, she had published books to prove this fact what she did not like was paperwork. Tedious, unending paperwork. It was the one thing she really hated during her tenure in Paul's royal council.

Irulan rustled through the papers.

"Perhaps I should purchase a computer," she said after a sigh.

Papers and lots of papers. She is ready to be disturbed.

Charlotte came bustling into the Imperial Brim looking ready to burst from news and carrying a portfolio in one hand and a drink carrier with two cups from the Perk in the other. "Irulan! Hello! I'm sorry to bring you business at...well, your business, but I've come across some pieces I'd like you to have a look at! And I brought tea!"

"Charlotte!" Irulan said, pushing away from the counter, "please, do come in!"

"I'm not interrupting anything, am I?" Charlotte asked, eyes a little wide as they traveled over all the paperwork.

Irulan shook her head and smiled. "No, in fact, it is a welcome interruption. If there is one thing I dislike its paperwork!"

Charlotte chuckled a little at that, setting the portfolio down for a moment and placing the tea on the counter. "And there's more than enough of that involved in starting a new business, too. Congratulations, by the way," she gushed, beaming, and taking a look around. "The place looks just great!"

"Thank you!" Irulan said, gratified the shop met Charlotte's standards. "Your offer of tea sounds most enticing," she gestured to a nearby chair and table set. "Come, let us sit."

"Oh, thank you!" Charlotte said, smiling, picking up both the portfolio and the tea so that they could be relocated, and easily settling in at the table. "Have you had much business so far, Irulan?"

"A few," Irulan said, "some students, friends of my stepson wandered in and purchased some hats." She glanced around then returned her attention to Charlotte. "If you find anything you like I would be more than happy to provide you one."

The servant behind Irulan gave a sigh. It seems the princess seems to miss the point of selling hats.

Charlotte smiled. "Maybe in a little bit," she said. "Although, that's just opening up a can of worms. If I get a new hat, I'll have to get new shoes to go with it!"

Funny, Charlotte didn't seem to sound distraught at all about that. Quite the opposite, actually.

"One must always look your best," Irulan agreed. "I should also go purchase new clothes soon. All my clothes are either too formal or something one should wear in the desert."

Irulan didn't sound put out by this notion either.

A very eager grin spread on Charlotte's face. "You know," she said, oh-so-casually, "if you might want any help in something like that, I am an expert shopper, if I may say so myself."

"An expert shopper?" Irulan's smile blossomed into a grin. "I do believe I would need expert help purchasing new clothes."

"Well," said Charlotte, nodding as an expert would, "I would be more than happy to help."

"And I would be more than happy to accept the help," Irulan nodded as one would after coming to a delicate diplomatic agreement. Then Irulan directed her attention to the portfolio, she looked at it curiously, "You mentioned something about pieces I needed to see?"

"Yes," Charlotte laughed a little, reaching for it, so that she could open it up and start showing Irulan some of the prints inside (http://fineartamerica.com/profiles/horacio-cardozo.html?page=1). "Sorry; I'm just easily distracted over some things. Either way, I found this artist and he's almost exactly what I was thinking of for some wall art. His name is Horacio Cardozo, he's Argentinean, and his pictures are just so rich with color. I was especially drawn to Woman in Yellow (http://fineartamerica.com/featured/woman-in-yellow-horacio-cardozo.html) and Woman Holding a Bowl (http://fineartamerica.com/featured/woman-holding-a-bowl-horacio-cardozo.html)," she easily located the pieces as she mentioned them, "or maybe even Secrets of the Red Veil (http://fineartamerica.com/featured/1-secrets-of-the-red-veil-horacio-cardozo.html), which is a little more risque, but it's just such a gorgeous piece, and there's no denying that it'd be bold. But even just these (http://fineartamerica.com/featured/liquid-moonlight-horacio-cardozo.html) simpler (http://fineartamerica.com/featured/fugitive-apple-essence-horacio-cardozo.html) designs would look just stunning."

"Understandable," Irulan said with a smile. She looked at the pieces Charlotte pointed out. Irulan was immediately drawn in by the art. She truly liked the 'Woman Holding a Bowl' but for some reason the 'Woman in Yellow' held Irulan's attention. The emotions expressed in the print both familiar and visceral.

"Its strange, I feel an almost kinship to this one."

"It's just so powerful," Charlotte gushed in agreement, "simple but still bold. It's almost exactly what I had in mind when we were talking about how to decorate. And they're very reasonably priced, easily under eight thousand when all is said and done."

"Yes, 'simple but bold' is a very apt description for these pieces," Irulan translated the amount Charlotte stated to her home currency then nodded. "It is very reasonably priced." She touched the prints again, "I think these prints would do, although I think the 'Secrets of the Red Veil' should be placed somewhere more private? Perhaps my library?"

Charlotte nodded. "I think that would be an excellent place," she agreed, feeling exceptionally pleased that she'd managed to swing by today.

"Good, or, I think kids use the term: 'awesome'?" The word came out awkward and Irulan chuckled. "I'm glad you were able to stop by and saved me from the paperwork."

Behind her, her servant let out another sigh. It would seem the princess was evading her duties. Irulan ignored her servant.

"Momentarily, anyway," Charlotte said with a laugh. "It'll still be there, unfortunately, when I leave."

"You're right of course," Irulan conceded. "But it was still good to have you around."

Charlotte smiled at that, as well. "Happy to help. Gets me away from my own sea of paperwork, too."

"Thousands of years into the future and one would think we'd find a way around it." Irulan gave a small laugh.

"Some things, I guess," Charlotte grinned, "are just universal and timeless."
