Charlotte had made only the briefest pause in her work today, to make sure everything was all set and meticulously proofread and reviewed before sending to the printers exactly what the invitations for the wedding needed to look like and how many she needed and exactly which envelopes to get, because that was incredibly important. She'd read somewhere that some women had actually died from too much wedding invitation glue. She didn't want to take any chances.

But once that was finished, she could refresh the usual Sunday tea service and then get back to work on more art related and business related work.

Okay, and maybe one new pair of shoes.

Where there's a Charlotte!

Irulan entered the gallery, she had a hat box with her. "Hello."

"Irulan!" Charlotte smiled happily when the other woman came in. "Hello! How are you?"

"Very well," she answered. "Since you went by my shop the other day I thought to return the favor and to give you this."

Irulan held up the hatbox. She hoped Charlotte liked the hat (http://www.lockhatters.co.uk/Spring_Summer-Silk_Sunhat-P358.aspx").

"Oh, Irulan," Charlotte gave the other woman a look from across the counter, but it was one tinged with amusement, "you really didn't have to..."

"No, please, its no trouble," Irulan said. She won't mention the put upon sigh her servant kept giving her. "Consider this a gift of friendship from House Atreides."

She opened the hatbox and presented the hat (http://www.lockhatters.co.uk/Spring_Summer-Silk_Sunhat-P358.aspx) to Charlotte.

"Well, then, in that case," Charlotte said, still putting a note of protest in her voice although she was obviously tickled, "I wouldn't dre--"

And that's when she saw the hat. "Ohmigod, that's adorable!"

Irulan was pleased. "It is quite adorable, I hope it would fit you."

"Oh, I love it!" Charlotte said. "Perfect for summer, although, you know, really, now I'll have to find the perfect summer outfit to go along with it..."

"Summer is a perfect time for new beginnings," she said with a sage nod.

The wisdom made Charlotte chuckle a little in agreement. "It certainly is. Did you give any thought into when you might be available for a little shopping trip, Irulan?"

Irulan thought about it. "Would you be free anytime next week?"

"Usually, my weekdays are pretty open; Thursday's a bit tricky. It's just the weekends that I don't have anyone hired in to work the desk..."

"Ah, any day but Thursday," Irulan said with a nod.

"Thursdays always end up weird," Charlotte shrugged. "It's the ~~mun's required little computer day~~ weirdest thing."

"Would Sunday do?" Irulan asked.

There was a pause. "This...coming Sunday, as in next week, or the Sunday after that?"

Irulan paused, startled. "Did I say Sunday? I meant to say this Friday."

"The 26th?" Charlotte asked. "Oh, that could be perfect. There's that dance Saturday, and we could pick up something for that, too."

"Dance?" Irulan asked in confusion. "There is going to be a dance?"

Charlotte's head bobbed in a nod. "Some big summer event," she explained. "This coming Saturday. I think I saw some poster for it or something."

"I should really pay more attention," she said, "I'll attend perhaps I'll meet someone I knew there. Although, this time perhaps I shall avoid the punch."

Last time she drank the punch she became... very loud. And bouncy.

"At least at the second half of the party," Charlotte agreed with a laugh. "Although that might be right when I start to try it."

"I suppose I do handle alcohol better now, when I was younger I was... I believe your Earth term is 'lightweight'." She shook her head ruefully.

"Oh, I'm still a lightweight," Charlotte admitted with a laugh. "But a little never hurts."

"Too true, a little never hurts!" Irulan agreed. "Will you be going with someone to the dance?"

"Well, yes," Charlotte said, glowing quite a bit for the chance to mention it, "I'll be going with my fiance, Dale."

Of course, they hadn't talked about it yet explicitly, but it was pretty much a given.

Irulan smiled at Charlotte's happiness. "Oh, I didn't know you were engaged! Congratulations!"

She might be dubious about the marriage institution after what happened to her own but she couldn't ignore the happiness it brought out from Charlotte.

Oh, Charlotte could totally go on her own rant about the institution herself, impressive ones, too.

Not that you could tell by the way she was currently lit up with excitement, though.

"Oh, thank you! His name's Dale Cooper, and he's actually the town's sheriff." No small amount of pride there! "We've set the date for August 8th."

"8th of August? Why, that's not so far off!" She grinned, "Really, my congratulations! If you need any help with your wedding I would be happy to help!"

"Oh, definitely!" Charlotte nodded. "The invitation should be going soon, and once that happens, it'll just be crazy, crazy, crazy until the ninth."

"I could only imagine," Irulan said, really not able to picture it."My own wedding went by so fast."

"So did my last one," Charlotte muttered with a wrinkling of her nose.

"Your first marriage?" Irulan guessed. "Was your first marriage political too?"

"Oh, no," Charlotte shook her head. "It wasn't. But I still swear, sometimes, we were practically at war."
