Morgan's Hardware - Wednesday, 07/22

Morgan liked to think he was a reasonably intelligent man. He liked to think that he had a reasonable temper, that he was friendly and decent, and that he had a good understanding of how computers worked.

"Mother !@#$ing Vista!"

...Morgan's printer did not agree with him on at least two of these points.

"What do you want? You want me to sing? You can sing, and not save any of my files, but you won't recognize my printer. Great. Just great."

The store was open, even if the owner was in the back office, wondering how it would feel to tackle Bill Gates.

"About which part?" Dinah grinned, delighted to have delivered a payload of buh? in only one sentence. "I do have a friend named Merlin, and he can do magic, but it's not like he's an old guy with a beard. And I used to think I'd want to be a kitten, but now I think I like my brain unmessed with."

There was always room for more buh!

"Soooo true. Plus, who knows what it would do to my brain? We went to another planet, and the spice in the air gave me nightmares. I don't need kitten-dreams." Dinah made a face. Then looked thoughtful. "Although maybe they'd be cozy..."

"Yup! It was a special trip, I guess they don't do that very often at all 'cause it was the first time for a lot of people, but Professor Atreides is from Arrakis, and she got it cleared so we could visit. It's a desert planet." Oh, nuts. Mentioning that was a mistake, maybe. She hadn't expected the concern. "Um. Arrakis has this native spice, melange? In the water and the air and stuff." Dinah made a face. "If you're a little psychic, like me, it can mess with you. I ended up inside other people's nightmares."

"Nooo, well." She paused. "Um. If somebody I worry about is in trouble, I dream about them. It doesn't happen very often. Thankfully." Dinah held out the hand she'd smacked and spread her fingers. "Touch-telepathy, though. But I don't use it if I can help it. Professor Atreides is teaching me how to control it so I don't read people on accident." She shrugged her shoulders. "I told you lots of the kids here are different."

Most of the time, people didn't want Dinah inside their heads to protect themselves; it was a lot less often that they wanted to protect her. Dinah smiled at Derek for that, and thought again that Jesse would like him. A lot.

"I promise. I'm a lot better at shielding, but--" She sighed. "Yeah. The insides of some people's heads are very messed up. I know." She shrugged then. "Can't promise not to worry, though. Sorry."

Tony's encounter with the ghosts of the dead, did that count?

"Cool." Dinah grinned at him, bopping her hand on the counter with a tiny wince. "I should get going, I've got Magic Reserves in an hour or so."

"See ya!" Dinah promised, heading for the door. "Hope things are quiet for you for a while!"
