The Gig, Sunday

Judging from the way they'd practically bolted into the paddock, the horses had apparently eaten far too many Pop Tarts yesterday and were still enjoying the sugar high.

Firekeeper just rolled her eyes and settled in to her usual spot leaning against the fence as Blind Seer ran off to chase them. The new horses were conspicuously absent, being still not convinced that the wolves meant no harm.

[ooc: open but with SP at points due to RL.]

It was a frustrated and slightly winded Francine who made her way out to the Gig today, two tins of cookies in her arms. She'd lugged her stuff back to the dorms -- with help that she both wanted and didn't -- to find no Katchoo, and no earthly desire to be around any other kind of human at all. Even the kind with the ears that she was kind of in love with. Or maybe the word there was especially.

Luckily for Francine, she did know a place where there were no humans at all. "Hi," she said quietly, making her way up to the fence. "I brought cookies."

"My mom made them," Francine said, balancing a tin on the nearest fencepost. "They're los better than mine."

"When I was little." Francine nodded, smiling a bit. "Well, when I was really little it was mostly licking the mixing bowl. Which I learned pretty quick."

Francine shook her head. "No. She doesn't have a regular job. She just cooks for our f--" And exit nostalgia-induced smile, stage left. "She just cooked for our family."

"No. She--" Well, she had, probably, Francine realized. With her and Ben at school and Dad... Ugh. She curled her lip and gave the fence a kick. "Families are stupid. We should all just have packs like wolves, or something."

Francine twisted a lock of hair in her fingers, then let it go with a sigh. "I know. I meant human families. They're... stupid and complicated and ...errgh." She shook her head and looked at Firekeeper. "Do wolf packs ever fall apart?"

Francine considered that for a while, then shook her head again. "That's more like human kids growing up and going off to start their own family, I think."

"No, that's... normal." Whatever normal meant anymore. Francine shook her head and thought of saying more, but... didn't. "Maybe it's just humans that are stupid." She looked over at the horses and Blind Seer. "They seem to be having a good time, anyway."

Francine smiled at that. "Too much sugar for riding, you think?" Mark the date; Francine Peters actually asked to do something she previously had to be cajoled into.

Francine frowned. "Of you?" Blind Seer, she could understand.

"And they know that?" Of course they did, she thought a moment later. Firekeeper might look like a human girl, but she didn't move like one, or entirely speak like one. Even a human, even a slow human like Francine, couldn't un-know what she was, once she told you. "See? What did I say? Smarter than humans."

"Maybe," Francine said, because heaven knew Firekeeper knew animals better than she did. "But they're less confusing to me anyhow."

It seemed babyish, somehow, now. She oughtn't to have needed it the last time, not with a horse like the ones here, but she'd been nervous and... anyway.

"Do you want to ride with me instead?" Assuming Firekeeper felt like riding a sugared-up horse...

"Think we should share the cookies with them?" Francine asked, stepping up on a fence-rail because if there was a way to fall off a hose before she was on a horse, Francine Peters would find it.

Francine eyed the tin for a moment. She'd been taking orders for everything else; she should have thought of that.

Then she brightened a bit. "There's oatmeal cookies. Those just have oatmeal and honey in them. And apple-sauce."

Francine gave a little laugh. "Maybe after, as a bribe for good behavior?"
