The York Gallery, Wednesday August 12

Shilo was early getting in today, and was planning on working on the last section of her story for Creative Writing.

What she ended up doing was writing for about twenty minutes, and then spending the rest of the day playing My Zoo on Facebook.

Damned game was so addictive.

The York Gallery is open!

Come brag about your zoo to Shilo.

Sophie was in early on her way to her office hours, and smiled when she saw Shilo had the place open. "Good morning, Shilo. Did Miss York-- I mean, Mrs. Cooper, let you know I'd bought the gallery?"

"No, I hadn't heard that yet," Shilo said, somewhere between confused (wasn't this her teacher who was constantly having them steal art?) and excited (because this was Sophie, who was awesome as far as Shi was concerned). "Congratulations on acquiring the gallery."

"Thank you, Shilo," Sophie said, pleased. "I bought it the day before Ms. York became Mrs. Cooper, so there wasn't much time to formalize things. You're still employed here of course, if you wish to be. Could you tell me, what days and hours do you usually work?"

"Only Wednesdays, right now," Shilo replied, "and all day. I was thinking I might pick up another day once I know what my schedule for this fall looks like."

"That would certainly be all right. I'm not going to be teaching next semester; I think I need a break. Thus, the gallery." Sophie walked around it, sending Shilo a speculative look. "Tell me, what kind of exhibits would you like to see here? You've worked here long enough and learned enough from my classes to have some opinions, I think."

"I think an exhibit of modern tribal art could be really interesting," Shilo said, "or maybe featuring student artwork for a little while."

"The first would be easier to organize than the second, I think... but I understand there's an Art Club, during the regular school year? Perhaps Steve will know whom to approach about setting that up," Sophie said, musing aloud. "In a school like this, with such a diverse population, we're bound to get some truly different entries." She smiled at Shilo. "Do you paint or create any art yourself?"

"I draw a little," Shilo admitted.

"Then perhaps, if you feel like it, we'll include some of yours in an exhibition like that," Sophie said, half-planning it in her head for October already, pending input from whoever ran Art Club, and possibly Steve's classes. Assuming he wasn't teaching Sex Ed again.

Shilo shrugged. "Sure, could be fun," she said with a smile.

"Something to think about after next week's class." Sophie's expression turned mischievous. "And however that goes. I have some surprises planned." She tilted her head. "Is there anything you need from me, as your employer? I admit to not having had an actual employee before. I may be gone some weekends, for auditions out of town, or art buying trips."

Shilo mentally recorded that mischievous face. "I'd just like to keep offering drinks to people," she said evenly. "Like iced tea when it's really hot, and maybe cocoa when it starts getting colder out. It's a nice way of getting people to step in and check it out."

"I like that," Sophie decided. "Feel free. The gallery will provide a budget for it, of course." She smiled. "I should get going to the school; I have office hours in a bit. I'll be moving into the apartment upstairs next weekend or the week after, I think, depending on how soon I can get assistance. But until then, just leave a message on my school phone if anything important arises. All right?"

"Sounds like a plan," Shilo said with a nod. "And if you have any questions about the boring day-to-day gallery stuff, call me."

Come look at the art.

Only two more weeks until my new job starts!

And omg, seriously, MyZoo is crazy addictive.
