Turtle & Canary -- Thursday

The chance of scattered thundershowers meant that, really, Maron was going to do the smart thing and bring an umbrella with her to work. Once there she took a look outside and decided that it really would hurt if she just made the umbrellas a little more prominently displayed.

Definitely couldn’t hurt.

Layla came to the counter with her arms filled with several dozen pairs of sports bras and underwear in various colors shapes and sizes. "Hi!" Layla said cheerfully. "I don't suppose you have any more of these in the back do you?"

Maron blinked.

"We should," she said, staring at the pile. "Did you clean out the whole section?"

A pause.

"How many more would you like me to look for?" How many did one person even need?

"Oh at least a dozen more of each," Layla said as she cheerfully dropped them all on the counter. "Whatever sizes you might have. I'm not that picky."

Maron, feeling that it was bad form to leave the counter, sent Apu to go and get them for her. She did ask very nicely though.

While he was doing that, she looked at the huge pile. "How can you not be picky?" Maron asked curiously, reaching to start punching in the prices. "Shouldn't they have to fit you?"

"I'm just helping some friends out," Layla replied with a little smirk. "You never know when you might need them."

"Friends buy friends underwear now?" Maron laughed. "Fair enough, I guess. Do you do this often then?"

"No," Layla said with a chuckle. "Only on special occasions."

Maron was now... fairly convinced some poor person (or persons) were going to be getting some sort of a joke played on them.

Apu came back then, arms full the underwear he'd been sent to find and set it on the counter. Maron glanced at the increased pile.

"Will that be enough?"

Layla tilted her head at the pile and nodded. "Should be," she replied. "With enough to spare. Thank you for having Apu check for me."

"You're welcome," she said, grinning a bit as she continued punching in all of the amounts and then bagging the underwear. "Turtle says that's what he's there for, but I still feel a bit odd doing it."

"I'm pretty sure he's just happy to be here and glad for the business," Layla replied. "So what's the damage?"

She rang the last item through and said, "Your total is ~~handwavy~~."

It was a reasonable total taking into account just how much was being bought.

"That works," Layla said with a small frown pulling out her stash of cash from her backpack. "Takes up most of my savings but it should be worth it."

She... really didn't understand why this was being done in that case.

"Worth it," she echoed, smiling slightly. "Well, if you think so."

"Oh, I know so," Layla said with a little smirk. "Thanks for your help Maron!"

She blinked. How--?

"You're welcome," Maron said, "please, have a good day."

And she was just going to puzzle over that for a little.

I think it's just one of those weeks where I'm tired even though I sleep fiiine.
