Atlas Gym | Friday Afternoon

After meeting with the NPC staff and trying to ignore the two girls who were whispering the whole time about some crazy/hot scale and where battling birds fell on that, Dimitri set to work touring the gym facilities.

The place was much more extensive than the Guardian facilities at St. Vladimir's, given the location of a gun range beneath the swimming pool. But there was equipment, mats, and dummies galore to keep Dimitri from feeling too far from his own understanding.

That was a good thing.

After the past couple of days, and with new people arriving on the island soon, Max was feeling a bit restless. And when Max was feeling restless he did one of two things. The second of those was go to the gym. And today it was the second he picked.

He paused when he spotted Dimitri. He was pretty sure he hadn't seen the other man before. "You new here, or am I just that out of the loop?" he asked with an amused grin.

Everyone who entered was noticed in some way; it was the habitual threat assessment and awareness that went with too much time spent training.

"Depends on how extensive the loop is," Dimitri answered, looking impassively at the new arrival.

Max quirked an eyebrow and shrugged. "I try to make sure I know who's who around here. And..." he looked Dimitri up and down. "I think it would be pretty embarrassing if I'd missed someone your size." Max didn't run into very many people taller than him, even if it was just an inch or two.

It would embarrassing, Dimitri could agree with that. "I arrived yesterday, so there's no need to worry about your eyesight just yet."

"That's a relief," Max chuckled. He approached Dimitri and offered his hand. "I'm Max. One of the instructors at the school."

"Dimitri," he replied, shaking Max's hand firmly. "What is your area of expertise?"

"These days I find myself teaching mostly swords and infantry tactics." Max shrugged. "Turns out that career soldiers aren't qualified to teach much more than that."

Which... wasn't strictly true. But it was in line with his publicly acknowledged skillset.

Sure, that description sounded a little different, but given Kirova had found this school a decent replacement for the Academy, Dimitri was getting a fuller picture of what they offered.

"Those are good skills to have. What sort of sword work do you do?"

"I'm most comfortable with the gladius, but I'm familiar with dozens of styles." Max shrugged a bit sheepishly. "I've been told that if I applied my interest in learning about blades to other fields I'd be a passable student."

"Obviously you are the person to see for assistance with that type of weaponry," Dimitri commented, filing it away for future needs.

It was later in the afternoon, but Rose figured she might as well check in before Dimitri decided she wasn't holding up her end of the bargain.

"Hey Comrade," she said, way too amused at the whole 'inspecting equipment' thing. "Enjoying yourself?"

"Don't call me that," he replied, looking away from his work. "That depends. Do you take enjoyment in your work?"

"Sometimes," she offered flippantly. "When it's fun."

Naturally. "Then you should be able to answer your own question," he told her, tucking a strand of dark hair back behind his ear. "You didn't come down here for practice, did you?"

Which meant that she was totally deciding he was enjoying himself. Rose found herself following the movement of his hand then made herself look away.

"I came down to make sure Fandom wasn't breaking your brain," she admitted. But if there was a challenge there, she was so up to it. "I could practice."

Noticing her look away, he attempted to ignore it.

"My mind is still intact." There was a hint of amusement in his tone, like he wondered what would be doing the breaking. "And capable of remembering how recently you suffered blood loss and a blow to the head. No training today."

Unconsciously, her hand went up to touch the side of her neck.

"That's not totally hardass of you," Rose teased. "I thought we were supposed to be ready under all circumstances."

"Yes. And three clinic visits in one week earns you a spot on the bench," he told her. "Your classes resume Monday?"

Rose nodded, more serious. "I haven't seen my schedule yet, but yeah. They're supposed to."

"Will it take long for you to adjust to the daylight schedule?" Dimitri asked, thinking of their training and whether he should hold sessions in the morning or the 'morning.'

Tim had been very glad to hear of the new gun range at the gym. He could have kept using the holosuite at MCA, this was nice for getting out of the house.

His aim proved to be good enough that he started practicing with different power levels of the blasts from his sword.
