Turtle & Canary - Sunday

So many new faces. So many new fresh minds. So many who hadn't yet been terrorized by walking spots.

Yes, G'Kar was looking forward to meeting them all. To this end, he had placed a sign in the window.

Apu, of course, was just going through his usual routine of cleaning, organizing and restocking.

It was going to be a good day.

"So how's your weekend been?" Dinah was asking as she and Fiona walked in the shop. "Anything new and exciting, meet anyone new?" She headed over to the make-up aisle, frowning as she got to the nail polish. "Maybe a few of these."

Fiona shook her head.

"Nothing like that. Mostly I've been catching up on things I missed while I was a kitten."

She looked at the colors and pointed at one of the blues.

"That's pretty."

Dinah picked up the shiny blue and grinned. "I could put streaks in my hair again, to match. Think I will. I can get Priestly to help, maybe." She picked out a plum one too. "Oo, reminds me, what did you think of the play?" She held up a melon-rose one against Fiona's cheek. "You should get this one, it'll look great on you."

She blushed just about the same color as the nailpolish and held her hand out for it.

"Thanks. And the play was amazing. There's so much I never knew was in that story." Not to mention-- "and your performances were great. I told Jack but I guess I didn't remember to tell you. I really loved it."

"Aww, thanks!" Dinah grinned at her, and picked up a red polish, reading the name off the tag. "Juicy Jezebel. Um, no." Putting it back, she said, "I'm so, so glad that play is over. It was a lot of fun to finally do it, but wow, did stuff go wrong up until the last second. I kind of believe it is cursed. What kind of stuff had you not seen in it before?" she asked, curious. Then picked out a lipstick for Fiona to go with the nailpolish, one a shade golder than the polish. "And this!"

Fiona smiled and took the lipstick, since she trusted Dinah. It took her a moment to find a light pink that she thought suited the other girl and hold it out to her. Even if it was 'Precious Pink'.

"The Witches were new. And a bunch of the lines made sense this time."

"Hunh. Was this that censorship thing again?" Dinah asked, taking the pink lipstick with a pleased smile. "Seriously, how can you have it without the Witches? They set up the whole things. Sheesh." She shook her head. "I'm wondering what play Geoffrey's going to do next, but it can't be as difficult as this one."

"I guess," she said, "though ambition doesn't really need an explanation. It's happened in the past without witches, after all."

Probably.

"Are you going to try out for the new play?"

"Yup! Well, probably. As long as it's not another tragedy. I think I've had it with having to cry or be grim. Cal says Geofffrey usually does a comedy next, though, so probably." She grinned at the memory of Cal's teasing, then grimaced remembering the corner she'd talked herself into. "Do you think you'd want to? Or help out backstage?"

"I could do backstage," she offered with a faint, shy smile, "but I'm not going to act."

She'd explained it to Jack before, that she was a bit too uptight about figuring out who she was to try and play someone else.

"Do you think they could use me?"

"Definitely. Poor Zack was going crazy this time, with five things to do at once, and I was doing lights up until Act V, when I was on-stage." Dinah grinned. "Tony's back, and Harper will probably doing costumes again, but that's still not enough people, not really. Even if it's just one more person to paint scenery." She grinned. "Besides, you'd like Geoffrey. He's... unique." Craaaazy. "And a genius."

Another eye-liner, held up to the side of Fiona's face, a smoky gray. "This one!" Dinah shook her head, and said, "So, I was a cat, Friday night. Why didn't you tell me what a blast that is?"

She took the eyeliner, quirking as she looked through the rest for one for Dinah. It was a brown, a more natural shade that would still look striking on the other girl.

"You were a cat? Friday? Guess I didn't mention it because, um, I missed being a person. Griff isn't very good at interpreting 'meow'."

"Awwww. I guess if it had lasted a week, I would've felt the same way." Dinah grinned, looking sheepish, not kittenish, and took the liner from Fiona, holding it next to her eyes. Hmm! "I asked 'Dite to change me into one, then I got out of the shop and into the park. Kind of made people chase me for a couple hours. And ate a cricket, bleah."

"Crickets are actually very good food. Nutritionally, I mean," she added a moment later with a duck of her head.

"'Dite did it? You just wanted to try it?"

"Yeah. I was supposed to stay in her shop, but the door was open, and the Call of the Wild was too strong. Also, the urge to chase fast-food wrappers." Dinah grinned. "She changed me back." Aaaand Dinah turned bright red. "And gave me my clothes back a second later." She shook her head. "I need to get her some kind of thank-you-let's-not-do-that-again present before Thursday."

"I did mention that I turned back totally naked on Griff's bed, right?" she pointed out mostly to try and make Dinah feel less embarassed.

"No! Did you?" It did help. Lion-O might've caught a glimpse of her, but that wasn't as bad (or good?) as a guy she knew and liked. "What did he do?"

"Pushed back my hair and handed me his blanket. Really, he was sweet about it."

"Awwwww!" Dinah looked delighted for Fiona, and stopped shopping for a second to just grin at her. "That's so awesome. I'm jealous. Well, not jealous of Griff," except she could be, if she let herself; Griff was really cool, and funny. "Just in general."

"I'm just really glad his roommate didn't wander into things. That would have sucked."

She glanced over at Dinah.

"Have you had any... dates? Anything?"

"Seriously, seriously sucked," Dinah had to agree. "That's Alex Karev, right?"

She had to stop and think about that, and then tentatively said, "No? I think?" Kind of hard to be sure....

She looked at her makeup, and then she looked at her friend.

"Then we should spend the rest of the day making sure you look really nice. We could even go to the mall on the mainland for clothes shopping, if you wanted to."

Dinah turned red, and laughed, looking down. "Thanks. That would be awesome." She picked out another eyeshadow for Fiona and said, "Here. My treat."

It would be nice, at least, if in going to 'Dite's shop with Cal, she at least had the confidence of knowing she looked good, right? 'Cause that might be the only thing she had to hang onto after a bit.

She took it and picked up one she thought might look good on Dinah. She'd toss it into her bag somehow.

Fiona ducked down and, hoping that she got this right, gave Dinah a smile.

"You're really pretty. And you're... so much nicer than I am. I got really lucky with Griff. So I figure getting some nice new clothes just means making you luckier."

"You're plenty nice," Dinah protested, reaching out to tug on one of Fiona's curls, and letting it boing out of her grasp. "But thank you. Lots." She took a breath. "Okay. This'll do. Let's pay and go on to clothes. And shoes!"

Maybe if she was even taller, she'd feel even more confident about this?

"Exactly! I'll call the taxi so we can head to the mainland."

But she brought her things up to the counter and waited behind Dinah to get rung up.

Jack needed a pick-me-up and chose.... root beer. For once. He managed to resist the pull of the Grape Judas.

"Hey! How's your weekend?" he asked G'Kar.

"It was relaxing and quiet. About the same as usual. And how was yours?"

"Good, good," he said. "I like things quiet and relaxing. Always a good thing."

[I leave for the RenFest in 6 hours, so mega-slowplay unless you want to wrap up]

"But sometimes a bit of excitment is a welcome change," he smirked.

(ooooo renfest! send me a postcard lol. and I'm good either way)

"True. Excitement is exciting. That's... probably why they call it 'excitement'," he stated, pondering this realization.

G'Kar raised an eyeridge slightly. "I'm certain that's how it came to be." He was also thinking that Jack possibly didn't have much experience foraying in the world of philosophy.

Lots of people raised eyeridges at Jack. "Wow, that's pretty amazing." He actually forgot to sip his Squishy at that.

"Yes, I imagine it is." Sarcasm was probably also lost on Jack.

Most everything was lost on Jack. "Say, do you have any ice cream here? I could make an ice cream root beer Squishy float!"

"But of course! What kind of store would we be if we didn't have it?" he smirked. "It's right over there," he pointed at an aisle.

Jack raced back to the ice cream aisle and returned with a small half-pint of vanilla. "You don't mind, do you?" he asked, trying to open the ice cream without making a mess.

"As long as you plan on paying for it," he replied mildly, "I don't mind at all." G'Kar was a nice guy, true, but he wouldn't be a very good businessman if he gave things away for free, now would he?

...the free squishy day didn't count, mind you. That was marketing promotion.

"No problem," Jack said, putting a hefty dollop of ice cream in the Squishy cup, and taking a sip. "Oh, this is good stuff!"

Jack asked how much was owed, all the time complaining of brainfreeze.

G'Kar chuckled as he told him the price. "Apparently so. Perhaps we should consider making it a special."

"Let me know if you do," he said, when he was able to talk again. He promptly went back to brainfreezing himself.

"I will certainly keep you informed," he replied, glancing over his books on the counter.

"Thanks a lot!" he said, managing to pick everything up without dropping it. Bag? No need for a bag!

we finally got a new power supply for the xbox which means we can now watch the movies the dvd doesn't like. wheee!
