Dite's Decadent Delights; Friday [ 09/11 ].

Typically, Valentine didn't bring her laptop with her to Dite's shop; there were usually more than enough things to keep her entertained and distracted from her tendency to browse, but today was an exception. To her credit, though, she was working on writing something, but as to what it was, she wasn't about to tell anyone.

She was not about to neglect her dedication for featuring thematic devices. Quite the opposite, in fact. For today, on display at the counter, she had the Sinulator, a device that you plugged into your computer so that someone else, over the magicks of teh Intrawebz, could control the vibe and movement of it. There was even a name involved in the development of such products: teledildonics.

The Internet: not only for porn, but taking it to new interactive levels. It was beautiful, really.

He narrowed his eyes as he looked at Valentine. "Perhaps we should occasionally join our forces here. The fish might have been a success, after all."

"Oh, come on," Valentine said, meeting that look with a smile. "I know for a fact that poor girl doesn't deserve to be met with our powers combined, Leto."

"You are probably right," Leto admitted. "And clearly more compassionate than I am."

"More compassionate than a lot of people, actually," Valentine said. "It's in the official IF records and everything."

"And what are the IF records?" Leto had to ask.

"International Fleet," Valentine explained. "They were in charge of the armies and the Battle School. Potential candidates for Battle School were monitored and evaluated, and I was deemed too mild and empathetic for war."

He gave a small nod in response. "And were they right?"

Valentine laughed. "Probably," she said. For war, anyway. "They were right to go with Ender instead."

With Ender? Leto made a mental note of this. "Your brother received their training?" he asked without making it sound too important. "So, what would you say your talents are?"

"Being a good sister," Valentine answered with a faint smile, and then she shrugged, modestly. "I've always been pretty book smart, too. I want to do some writings. Histories, things like that."

A good sister could be many things though. "My stepmother writes history," was all Leto said though. "Have you met her?"

Valentine shook her head lightly. "I don't think I've really had the chance," she admitted. "Although I'd definitely be able to point her out in a crowd. Just haven't really spoken with her or anything."

"I suspect she might like you," he said, then added cheerfully: "At least if you don't insult her hats."

"Oh, I'd never dream of it!" Valentine assured him with a laugh.

Not in any obvious ways, at any rate.

"Then I'm sure you will get along fine," Leto replied. "But I shouldn't interrupt your busy work any longer."

"Oh, yeah," Valentine nodded. "So busy. But I appreciate your finally letting me go so I can do my job, Leto."

"Yes, as I'm a bad customer who doesn't buy anything." He smiled at her, then turned towards the door.

"Yeah, but the company's at least worth something," Valentine offered. "See you later."

"Now I might consider returning sometime to bother you again," he replied. "Good bye."

And with that he left the shop.
