Turtle & Canary; Monday [ 09/21 ].

After the dimension lag that she was feeling yesterday, Turtle had decided (slightly inspired by her chat with Leto) to just take it easy at work today and keep things relaxed and fun.

So she was doing inventory.

What? Inventory was totally fun.

There was also a sale on ice cream, since it seemed incredibly popular lately.

Today's Squishy Flavors: Rocky Road, Red, Grape Judas

Turtle & Canary is open!

Sale on ice cream? Hrm. Wouldn't transport well. Maybe some for herself, after she finished shopping.

"Hi," she told Turtle, smiling a bit awkwardly. "This is ... kinda strange, but ... I'm gonna need some groceries."

She glanced around the aisles. "... Make that a lot."

"They're not for me," Elena said, flushing slightly. "It's ... some holiday I can't pronounce, for a religion I don't follow, and ... you're supposed to send food to people, I guess, and I know some people who kinda ... need food."

Yeah. Totally weird, viewed in that light.

"You will?" Elena asked, eyes lighting up. "Do you think you could help me box everything? I'm gonna have to mail them -- so perishables are out, which is a damn shame. Nobody's had fresh fruit or anything like that in a long time, they have to be sick of dry starchy shit."

On the one hand, people that were starving weren't fussy, but on the other, it'd be so amazing to send something like fruit to a dying city like Edge.

She'd had lamb today, and plenty of Edge residents were transplants from the same dark slums she'd grown up in. Having food at all wasn't something people took for granted, there.

"Canned fruit," Elena nodded. "Sounds good, if it doesn't need to be refrigerated. I can try mailing it super-high priority and hope that means it'll only be a day or so, right?"

Now was a good time to fetch a cart. One that had at least most of the wheels pretending to go in the same direction.

"Can't hurt to include some of the dry stuff, too. I mean, it's still better than nothing, and that's what some of these people have."

Reno was walking up and down the streets, handing out beans to orphaned kids. Edge was not exactly rolling in prosperity.

"I think we're set, on utensils," Elena said, glancing over the rows again. "More or less. I mean, people had some, from before, it's just the food that's ... missing? I guess it couldn't hurt, though.

Midgar had been the hub for many supply routes. Ones that were not being diverted elsewhere, and not bothering to stop near Edge.

"I'm worried I'm going to ... pick something wrong, have someone get sick, and it'll be my fault for not knowing better."

Elena was not very good at this, no.

"Oh, it's not that," Elena said quickly, picking up a box of noodles and tossing it into her cart. "I mean, I know you sell good food here, I mean -- I'm scared that I'll get something that's a little perishable, and then the box gets delayed and bounced around like crazy, and by the time it gets there, it's gone bad. I'm just ... worrying needlessly, about all the stupid details."

The enormity of what was wrong in Edge would do that.
