"I would like to talk to you," said Castiel, once the time for his sermon rolled around, "about change."

Oh, this could be interesting.

"Change is inevitable, and not just for the denizens of Earth. Heaven and Hell experience change. The Lord experiences change -- or rather, it should be said, He affects change. Change can come in many forms, be it a personal, internal change, such as a change of mind, or an external one -- which this island seems to specialize in. It can be a physical change, a paradigm shift, a tire change, a climate change -- which, if you folks don't manage to end the world biblically, is something that perhaps you'll need to be rather more concerned with.

"There are many ways to react to change as well. You can reject change, and try not to change, though I suspect you'll find that much harder than you may think. Even when the Lord rejected the change Lucifer wanted to create, when Michael cast him into the Pit, there was still change. Just not the change that Lucifer had wanted.

"The important thing to remember is that, while change may well kill you and/or cast your soul into eternal damnation among the fires of Hell, the Lord is eternal. You will all someday die, probably soon, the world will someday end, quite possibly even in your life time, but after the end of the world, the Lord will carry on, doing . . . whatever it is He does with his free time when he's not up in Heaven where he's supposed to be, stopping the angels from trying to end the world ahead of schedule."

Perhaps it was best if Castiel didn't try to comfort people.

You all knew you'd die someday, right?

...Perhaps it was best that Francine was not actually there to be "comforted" today.

And this would be Arthur, taking a moment to squint at the Absence of Francine in between squinting at Castiel.

The Absence of Francine failed to respond.

Yes, Arthur was... aware of the fact that he was liable to die (sometimes, it seemed, sooner rather than later, even if you didn't take the books that foretold his death for truth) but Castiel's take on it was, as per usual, bewildering to say the least.

He spent an awful lot of time squining at the angel from his pew.

Didi knew she'd die as a mortal. That was inevitable; the surprising part was that she'd gotten even a month in this form.

Dying as herself, though ... she didn't think that would happen. But mostly, the service reminded her of her brother.

Well. This was comforting.

Oh, wait. No it wasn't. This was the opposite of comforting.

Andy had been in town buying supplies to make up some particular brownies and had stopped by the church out of curiosity. "Dude," he muttered to himself after the sermon, "downer much?"

...the only thing Derek Morgan could think besides the word 'facepalm' as he did just that was 'I should have introduced him to Reid while he was still here'.

The showdown of 'Most Unhelpful and Possibly Depressing Stream of Too Much Information' would have been EPIC.

Dinah was very, very non-plussed. Not so much the dying part, as the concept that God had gone on a field trip and wasn't checking in.

Dude. Way to run the universe.

Jack... wasn't sure why he was here, again. Maybe he felt like he oughta be. Maybe he just needed something to do.

...Regardless, the angel seemed to have a real SKEWED view of things.

Irulan missed a few services but after yesterday (and a change of clothes and chastising her servant) Irulan thought it would be a good day to visit Castiel.

Except hearing the service only served to feel concerned about Castiel.

Maybe ask about that whole "angels ending the world" thing. That wasn't how it was supposed to work, was it?

"So I had this brother," Didi began, as she wandered over to Castiel. "The sermon reminded me of him a lot. Hi."

"Indeed?" Castiel even smiled faintly. "I hope it was a pleasant reminder."
